clutch fan wasn't working properly because the engine position changed from the beefier custom motor mounts. truck was starting to run on the warm side in california heat.
i wouldn't have replaced it if it didn't need to be.
now that i think about it, i bought a better fan management module. the fan came with one, but i upgraded for $50. fan came with everything needed for $300. if you're going to do something, might as well do it right.

Must have changed the position a lot to cause fan/radiator not to be working within limits. The fan looks awesome. 3300Cfm is just radical.

How is an electric fan not useful??? I had problems with the stock fan on my blazer and had to go electric. When my truck would flex the fan would hit the shroud. I ended up using one of the Volvo fans from Datz and a nice SPAL controller. As a bonus I put a switch on my dash so I can shut the fan off on deep water crossings.

If you are having serious issues then there is nothing wrong with an electric fan, if you are just trying to bling your truck out just a bit more, than it is a waste.

I don't think it is a waist. I have had problems running hot ever since I added all the weight, 3" BL and the bigger tire. Changing my gears has helped the most but just sitting at idle in 110 degree AZ Sun still causes me to run hot.

I like the write-up 4x4review.com gave this fan, and unlike the Volvo unit Brent is using, this one only draws 18 amps. I have a Volvo unit myself but Brent was saying it draws over 30 amps and I would have to upgrade my alternator if I was serious about running it. This would be another option. Plus, I like the option of turning it off for water crossings.

Preference is what it's all about, and the need to keep it cool at idle in extreme desert heat. Smile

I just don't think Nissan put enough radiator in these things for the V6 Auto.

Bingo

One of my next projects will be having the local radiator shop make me a larger radiator, i have made some measurments, and with a bit of fab I can increase the radiator size quite a bit.

my main probem was that my custom motor mounts offset the angle of the fan a little bit. we cut away a significant amount of shround, and when it flexed, the fan still hit the shroud. it was not at all a useless upgrade.
the last straw that made me decide to get one was my truck running on the warmer side on my last trip to the hammers. air temp was about 110*. im sure its hotter than that in AZ.

Brent, how has the SPAL held up to the Volvo fan?

autozone.com! $237.99 states it is a direct replacement "two row" radiator. im assuming that is the same as a dual core. its going to be here tomorrow.

SOunds like it has similar radiative capacity- IOW, no difference.

Your stock radiator shouldnn't be degraded as you've a late model Fronty.

Do you have info that states this radiator is any improvement over stock?
