OK, I am relatively new here. But, before anybody reads the title and goes nuts on me, I understand what the MAF sensor does as far as fine tuning the air/fuel mixture for fuel economy and emissions. I think I understand what most of the negatives would be to doing this.
I am curious though, because I've seen adapters (Weapon R makes one http://store.racinglab.com/wr-afm-310-114-8.html) that would allow you to remove the MAS and connect a cold air intake directly to the throttle body. I'm also aware of the difference between a cold air intake and a short ram intake. (I read a string of posts about this in another forum where the families of the people involved will probably be feuding for generations to come Smile).
My question is this: has anyone???
Done it?
Seen it?
Invented it?
Even painted a picture of it!
I'd just like some real world honest experience.

Thanks for any inputs

The ECU wouldnt like the MAF to go missing...

That intake is just a replacement for the stock air filter box. Whether you replace the piping around it (the MAF sensor) or not with something that flows better, you still have to keep the MAF inline in order for the engine to run properly.

Personally, I wont run those types of filters on my trucks due to the danger of water getting into the engine during deep water crossings. They work fine if you dont do that kind of stuff though.

And BTW, smiley49 to N4W!

Also, I dont suggest buying that air intake kit. I had a similar one and the plastic piece that bolted in place of the stock air box cracked and made the filter useless (letting dust/dirt into the intake). Luckily I caught it before it really did anything to the motor. I'd suggest buying a complete air intake system.

The engine will not run without a MAF, and sticking the MAF inside a larger tube will give incorrect readings.

Sure it will. ECU assumes certain values and lets you run w/o instead of annoying limp mode. It will not run right and gas mileage will suck. But it will run.

Without the MAF it probably would be in limp mode.
