While many consumers are questioning the integrity of AC, I am asking myself should I still consider purchasing suspension/body lift from them. Most of the opinions I seen come from both ends of the spectrum. This puts me in a decisive state. I want to raise my truck in an economic fashion with the intent not having to fix problems along the way. I have two concern on this.
One, is the body lift continuing to be as good as everyone says it is?? It has been a few years since some of the frontier's received the body lift. I would like to know if they are still holding up. Two, revolving shackle. There are people, including DR (andy), who had problems with the AAL breaking. I know andy went and got custom aftermarket leaf springs. Does this mean the AAL will provide me the same problem if I was to install the revolving shackle lift???? Any thoughts on this would be appreciated??? GOT ANY BALLS?????????? |

Um, you keep saying I got custom springs....I don't. I have the factory packs with the AC AAL. My second leaf on the left side is now a main leaf from a broken pack with the ends cut off, and the second leaf on the right side is a 2nd leaf from a '96 HB...but they're still stock Nissan springs. The AC aal will work if another thin 28" leaf is used between it and the 2nd leaf on the factory pack. That's what I'm looking for now. I need to stiffen up the back a bit anyway due to the weight of the toolbox, jack, 32" spare, camper shell, and the cooler full of adult beverages.

Andy, I have your leafs. Come over to my dad's place tonight between 3 and 7-8ish and you can pick them up. They are out of the two packs where one pack has a bent main leaf.

My leafs are also trashed due to the Rancho AAL's. I'd look into the SLR AAL's.

Andy, my bad, I kept hearing you spent some greenbacks for your leaf, thinking its a new set.
I just dont want to be running into the same problem of the AAL destroying the original leaf packs. I will look into maybe spending the 500 bucks for the aftermarket leaf springs and not worry about the AAL. If I did this, what would I be able to sell my new factory leaf springs for?? Also, if I get an aftermarket leaf springs set (3" lift), this should be sufficient in abling me to use the revolving shackle on the truck. GOT ANY BALLS?????????? |

You can use revolvers with stock springs....it'll give you about an inch and a half in lift. Just don't use the AC AAL. Without that AAL for lift, the stock springs should hold up fine. Or, like I said...find a leaf out of a junkyard pack that's about 28" long and has some decent arch to it...then do your revolvers. You'll get close to 3" of lift that way which is about perfect.

DR almost at 2000 posts, woohoooo
Andy, ahhh, now I understand.... The added arch in the springs will allow it to flex more. Basically stock spring will limit my rear travel. Okey, that is good enough for me now.... Okey, I will get 3" body lift and get that shackle lift, raise the stock torsion bars up roughly 3/4" and call it done..... Okey, now I am ready to start buying.... GOT ANY BALLS?????????? |

Not quite....the arched AAL won't allow additional flex. You still have bumpstops on top and can only go so far as shackles let you go on droop, but the AAL will increase the ride height. Revolvers, or even longer shackles will give you additional droop.

oh ok, well I am not looking for any more height outside of the body lift. Eventually I would like to lift is some more down the road when I am ready to full lock the front and rear with really low r/p. Until then, there is no need to lift it any higher than that because all I am going to run for now is SS tsl 32x9.5x15 tire.
