right at about 2000 rpm theres a loud noise, not a whine or tapping or grinding...but more like a vibration noise. if i rev higher it goes away, if i slow back down to it the noise happens again. *i think* it is related to the exhaust like a crack or something, or maybe the gasket or flange areas? is there an easy way to find it? i cant rev the truck in neutral because it doesnt happen. only in like 3rd, 4th, 5th gear. do our exhaust systems have problem areas with exhaust? is there some easy way to find the problem area here? any help will be appreciated. thanks. oh btw i have a 2000 crewcab v6.

Jack it up and brace it on jackstands and rig the accelerator to keep the engine reving ,while you put your ear all over the motor.

,,, the manifolds crack sometimes/exhaust studs break, sometimes heat shields rattle, as well as other things.

mechanics stethescope is what you need. If you have a harbor freight around, you can pick one up for $3-4 and it'll help you isolate funny noises.

do you have A/C if you do you could have what mine did. the brackets holding the A/C piping to the firewall loosened up making it rattle at a certain rpm mine did it at like 2700rpm i think. it showed no sings of it before that rpm and only lasted like one or two hundred rpm after it started...good luck

I have this exact same problem except it happens at 3000rpms. No noise before or after 3000rpm. Happens more when engine is warmed up and when under load like going uphill.

Yours might be pinging if its happening under load. Could also be an exhaust leak at the manifold.

My truck did the same thing a couple of years ago. Its under warranty so i took it to The dealer. It ended up being a loose bracket which wasnt considered a warranty fix but while it was in they did some recall work and were able to tighten the bracket in the process. Worked out pretty well.

Its not pinging nor a cracked exhaust manifold because i just got them replaced a few months ago under warrenty. I also got my supercharger replaced at the sametime. This sound is more like something is lose and vibrates at 3000rpm only.

what was lose on your truck? do u remember?

They never told me what it specifically was. They just said it was a loose bracket and that they tightened it in the process of the other repair. It hasnt made the noise again.
