Andy (DR), Was it a worthwhile investment on your part when you got the custom leaf pack for the rear?
I remembered you having busted your rear leafs more than once under heavy articulation (but was that custom or stock leaf pack. I am trying to decide either way if I should get a custom set or not. I am going to install a revolving shackle sometime early next year. With that said, I will have serious flex and do not want to run into the same problem you did out on the trail. |

I still have stock leaf packs with AAL's, and it was stock springs I was breaking
The right side is a replacement OEM pack with the AAL. It will probably break again at some point. On the left side, when it broke, I wanted a cheap fix, so I took the main leaf from the other pack I replaced, cut it down, and made a second leaf out of it. The AAL is what is causing the breakage because it is too short. I plan to ditch the AAL's, add a longer second leaf, possibly from a Yota in the pack, and get the rest of my lift using revolver shackles. Quality replacement spring packs run $450-600 at most spring shops. Spencer Low Racing also sells them for Nissans, and AC sells them just for Xterras, I believe. 1998 Frontier 4x4 seriously built 2002 Xterra 4x4 still stock |

when you say close to 600 bucks, is that per side?

Ahhhh, okey
This is what I am thinking of doing. I am thinking of getting the AC (torsion bars and a-arm) to lift the front, and the 1.5" revolving shackle to lift the rear. I will then get a custom 2" leaf pack lift. I will worry about rancho shocks after I install the lift. Any thoughts? Altogether, it will be a 3" lift in front and 3.5" lift in rear. |

Hey Andy, have you checked into some Chevy's? You should... It might be some work, but you'd probably solve your spring pack breaking for a matter of 30 bucks or so. Also, I can get all the stock F350/250 leaf packs that I can handle from a buddy at Desert Rat. If you want a set to mess with, just let me know and I'll pick up a pack for you. They are thick leaves, but I'll bet you could get away with running just two leaves and it would probably flex pretty good.

they are wider than nissan leaf springs. I think it would be more work than its worth.

According to Mike, AC has spring packs for the Frontier 4x4, and the revolvers for the Fronty give you slightly less than an inch of lift, as compared to the Xterra shackles. This is assuming you have a 4x4 Frontier.

Currently one of my springs is in the shape of an "S" for the same reason DR described. AC does not currently make a spring pack for the Frontier but I have been talking to Mike about fitting an Xterra spring pack with 1.5 inches of lift on my truck. It should work. See any problems?

Actually yes, the X spring packs are longer than they are on a Frontier.

He told me a coupl eof times that they have one for the 4wd Frontier. That sucks.
Besides being too long, they are thick as hell, and would give you monster lift if you put them on the top of the axle. |

I don't know? I just talked to Mike on Monday and he said that he currently dosen't sell aftermarket springs for the Frontier. Maybe he was talking about OEM? His idea is for me to use the 1.5 inch lift X springs and remove the 3 bottom leaves. He figures this will give me about 3-4 inches of lift in the rear.

MVM, my thoughts exactly. Mixing and matching is the way to go.
Has anyone checked to see if 2wd springs are the same length? They got a lot more arch to them becuase they're set up for spring under. Plus, I'd be they'd be a bit softer too. 1998 Frontier 4x4 seriously built 2002 Xterra 4x4 still stock |

You know, if they aren't that much longer, you could just use a longer shackle and attain LOTS more flex without the drawbacks of revolvers.
