Hey guys!
My truck is pretty stock and I've been wanting to pick up some power and better gas mileage with some bolt on mods. If anybody has some hands on experience with antthing that actually works and is worth spending some cash on, I'll be glad to hear about it.
Does anyone have any experience with the AIRAID intake, it looks like it fits like the OEM box but yet is open, looks pretty cool, just wonder if it would work!
I've been looking into Gibson for a catback system for the truck also. I wish I knew sombody with one on there truck so I would Know how it sounds!
Any other suggestions I'm open for!
Oh yea! would 31" Tires fit under a stock 01 Fronty XE 4WD with out rubbing?
THANKS!

Hey there...

31 x 10.5 tires will fit dandy on a 4wd, CC or DR model of Frontier. Sometimes, insignificant plastic trimming is needed for the mudflaps and/or fenderwell flare on the front. Lots of us are also running a bit larger than this on 01+ Frontiers with the 265-75/16 or equivelent size.

I did a lot of research on Gibson because I thought it was what I wanted at first. You are going to get great throtle response and from what the Gibson guy told me a nice deep note. The only reason I didnt get one is since the exhaust on my truck comes out on the left side, I couldnt get the split rear system.

That is your Intake air sensor whatever you do you will need to incoporate that into your design.

As a general Rule cone filters are a bad idea and dont help much. Several people have had dust sucked into their engines because the cone fell apart. If you want a cold air intake build a snorkel which has multiple uses and is much better than a simple cone.

not necessarily true...only one persons cone "fell apart" and that was after a front end collision - the intake runner is more the culprit, splitting and cracking - my point it if you maintain the vehicle, meaning checking under the hood to make sure the cone is still atatched, youll be fine.

on a second note i made my own cone filter, but in terms of cleaning (air cleaning) you cant beat the stock air cleaner. if i had to do it again i would either pony up the cash for a real intake or keep the stocker

Andys fell apart and he was not in a collision, bottom line is there is really no tangible benefit from a cone. Fab up a snorkel if you want to alter your intake.

In all due respect, the benefit on a non-supercharged 170 hp 3.3 engine maybe small and hardly noticeable but I beg to differ that there isn't a tangible benefit to the cone filter.

I have the JWTechnologies (cone filter) pop-charger on a 2001 3.3L Supercharged engine. Complimented by a Magnaflow (straight thru) muffler and dual exhaust system among other modifications. I also have a duct hood and fuctional scoop for collecting more cool outside air feed and I can tell you that the truck has alot more than just a noticeable difference in both acceleration and top end speeds.

I've had this set up on my truck for about two years now with over 93K miles on it today and never has any blue, black, brown or whatnot color smoke has ever come out of my exhaust either....just my .02 for what its worth.

no question herk, you have put alot of love and work into your truck and im sure that you have benefit out of it. Smile

But my point is that by plopping a cone on the end of your intake with or without the exhaust is pretty much useless. As you pointed out it takes alot of design to get the benefit.
