Hey you got any angle shots of your front bumper? I am in need of some examples for my build and yours looks the best so far, only one I have seen with out the original bumper still in use.

What type of material did you use for it and your sliders? I want to get them built before AZIII. If I can sign up before all slots are taken, (That would suck), did allot of convincing today with Frontier Lady just to go. wink

If I'm not mistaken, the front and rear bumpers are from 1.75" .120 wall tube, and custom made by John Hunter of Hunter Offroad here in Tempe. The sliderz are ala Me and Datz510. They were on my Pathy as a bolt on assembly, and now they are on the Meany as a weld on deal. They are 2x3 box tube and .188 wall. I wasn't able to break them, so I'm sure Andy won't break them. smile

Frankie, I'll have to dig out some pics when I get a chance at home and upload them. I probably won't have time to do it tonight, but should be able to tomorrow night.

Mikey is correct on the materials. For the front, I removed about 6" from the crumple zone frame ends for better approach angle. I'll try to get some closeup pics up tomorrow evening.

Plan on spending more than a weekend doing this project unless you are an excellent fabricator. This isn't something I could even come close to doing. Most of the bumper is just one solid piece that's been bent in many different directions. There are definitly alot of compound bends.

To mount it, where the crumple zones were cut, a plate was welded in (probably 3/16) and then the bumpers were bolted to the frame there, and to the front most body mount. (on both sides)

To be honest, I don't think my mounting system is robust enough. I plan to add more gusseting at some point. (I like overbuilt stuff) Mikey pretty much nailed it. The mounts inside the fender - theres an end plate with a 3/4" nut welded to the inside. There are 1/4" steel custom bent brackets that go up from the body mount bolt and are angled to bolt to the bumper ends. The guy who did mine is an extremely talented fabricator, and like Mikey said, some of the stuff he did would be way over our heads.

Find a good tube bender/fabricator in your area and have it done. That front bumper was under $400.

not those, the one am thinking of is the one under member's rig on the main page. It's the one with your right wheel on the dirt mount with the left wheel hanging freely.
