"Nissan North America is conducting a service campaign on approximately 270,000 model year 2001-2002 Nissan Altima, Frontier and Xterra vehicles. On certain model year 2001 Nissan Altima vehicles manufactured prior to July 13, 2001 and certain model year 2001-2002 Frontier and Xterra vehicles manufactured prior to September 16, 2001, the window regulator may not operate properly. The primary cause of this issue is the regulator may fatigue and break under extended high temperature operating conditions. If this occurs, the power windows will no longer function. To correct this condition, Nissan will replace window regulators of affected vehicles registered in certain areas that are known to experience extended high temperatures. For affected vehicles registered in areas not known for extended high temperatures, Nissan will extend warranty coverage for the window regulators to a period of five years from the original date of purchase or 60,000 miles, whichever occurs first. Owners of potentially affected vehicles will be notified via mail beginning on January 12, 2004. Nissan is committed to a high level of customer safety and service and will be working closely with its dealers to promptly address this condition."
