I have a 2002 Frontier CC LB

Ok, I see that Calmini now offers a steering solution to our weak centerlinks. But unfortunately, after forking out the $850 for a suspension lift, I can't afford another $650 for the steering kit. I wish they had offered the steering before I bought the lift, 'cause Id've bought that first. But hey, that's old business, now.

So my question is, will the Rancho Steering Stabilizer help prevent premature wear on the centerlink by (hopefully) absorbing the harder, off-camber hits the tires take?? AC has the Rancho steering stab. for less than $80, so I'm hoping that it'll be good insurance to prolong the life of the centerlink, until I can get the steering upgrade.

Anybody have thoughts on this??

Thanks.

Having a susp. lift myself, I can say that the Rancho Steering stabilizer is a good investment and will make your vehicle more pavement friendly. I dont think that it will prevent any wear on your centerlink though...at least it didn't when I had an OEM C-link.

The things that really hurts them are large tires and cranked torsion bars.

Hope this helps.

As I understand, it's the rotation upwards of the centerlink that causes damage, not so much sudden/jarring bumpsteer.

I might help a little bit, but it's not a solution.

The steering kit is the way to go, but in the meantime you can help everything else out with the stabilizer and idler arm brace as well as perhaps tie rod adjusters. Of course, all but the stabilizer are in the kit... At least this way you can build up to the full kit. You'll have some spares when you upgrade to that, though.

Thanks. This is much better advice than I've gotten at any of the other boards.

BP is dead on. Start saving up for that steering solution. Hopefully your CL will last until you can get it replaced. Even a bad CL won't come apart on you, but it can push the TRE studs up into the frame when you're in the rough stuff. Taking it easy off road will help things last. Typically, bad CL's reveal themselves on big hillclimbs, particularly when you need to saw the wheel a bit. Every broken tierod I've ever seen has been under these circumstances.

I was pondering getting a steering stab. as well... I noticed that when I hit bumps, the wheel will turn suddenly and pretty harsh too (is that bumpsteer...sorry for the dumb question).

Yeah, bump steer is when you hit a rock or something, and the wheel turns because of it. Don't feel bad.

And DR, you gotta' take control of your woman!! smiley31

Hehehe. Good on, DL. lol

I wouldn't part with my SS... It smooths out the rough stuff nicely and also on the highway, near big rigs, in the snow, etc.
