Ok so yesterday I have my t-bar screw adjusters off along with that c clip because I have the Super Lift and I need to crank my bars up. But I can't slide the bars out of the adjuster arms because of rust. I'm doing this in auto class with a lift within a 80min class period. So I slap the truck back together to drive to work. Tomorrow I'm gonna take a second swing at it. My auto teacher recomends I heat the adjuster with a oxygen torch to make it expand a little and it may work but will heat permently soften the metal? I tried a big hammer and hole punch but it collapses the slot where the c clip go's. Is there any other way?

You could soak it in penetrating oil and let it soak overnight and soak it a couple times a day, if that don't work, I don't heating it up will permnantly soften the metal, as long you don't get it too hot.

Be one with the "pb Blaster" young grass hopper.

My Grandad used to soak the piss out of everything that was rusted with MMO.

Ive found that "pb Blaster" works the best.

Plus if you spray it in a foam coffee cup...well just try it its kind cool.

Ok well hears the plan soak the crap out of them tonight with some liquid wrench. The can has big red letters on the can that says Super Penitrating Oil and hope it works. If it don't work I'll have a huge flammable mess on fire tomorrow.

I would soak the crap out of em tonight and then when you get up in the morning soak the crap out of em again, and before you go to work on it if you can soak the crap out of em again, that should loosen em up if not, torch hit it!!

I've used just regular ATF on rusted parts and it has worked much better than any spray on stuff. I just put it in a little squirt can and give it a good soak.

I swear by PB Blaster. ATF doens't sound like a bad idea though.

This past summer I change my t-bars with new, but I had the same problem with rust and did the PB thing until I gave up on that and went to heat, bad choice. Once I did the heat it cost me about a $200 mistake. So take your time and just work at it and good luck.

Of coarse I may have gotten them too hot, so it's your choice on what you do, but I wouldn't recommend heat.

The only ones I had a problem with, heat didn't help either. We ended up taking the crossmember out, and a BIG snap on air hammer poked them right out.

When I pulled the torsion bars on my 89 4runner (similar setup) I ended up clamping on a pair of vicegrips just behind the A arm mount and giving them a good crack with a BFH... I cant imagine excessive heat would be good for torsion bars.

Well I soaked the crap out of them so much that I pulled out a rust chunk about a inch and a half long out of the end or the adjuster. I still had no luck getting the bars out. But I cranked the adjusters to the Max and it seems to be enough lift.

Thanks guys!

You guys do realize you can re-index from the front of the t-bar too. Undo the 3 bolts holding the t-bar anchor on, slide it back and twist away.
