I went up a old trail and when i got about half way up I hit a stump with the middle of the front end, when i tried to get off the front end was not grabbing, i got out and bothe torsion suspension bars were laying on the ground??? the tab thingsd on the back end of them were bent, i just got the truck, what caused this? and what is the best way to fix it(if it is fixable) should i just junk it and go sas what would be cheaper

i sounds like someone before you messed w/ the suspension. I've never heard of this happening before. Even w/ abuse.

Either taht, or you really hit the tilt meter.

I guess you bought the truck "as is"?
get a service manual to guide you.
Hopefully, you can put it back together properly.

did they just fall off, or break? did the adjusters spin the splines off the bars? that has been known to happen.

The splines look real good, the other end is a nother story both of them are bent where the mount to the adjusting bolt. This was my first time wheeling, good thing i only traded a 2wd ranger for it.

Sounds like someone didn't do something right before you. I would see if you can find a set of aftermarket t-bars or if your strapped for cash get a set from the junk yard or someone here who is parting their truck or just did a SAS.

You might just need to replace the adjusters, or the crossmember might be tweaked. It is also common for the front tbar mounts to crack and fail, that happened to me. I had Sway-away brand tbars once, and bent them after flogging my old Hardbody. You might be able to get a skid plate to prevent it from happening again. Or just sas the mofo! Big Grin

I just thought that it was weird that they both fell off at the same time, i set them on the ground and the tabs are bent in oppsite directions. It is funny now that i think about it but earlier hen my friend got out of the truck and picked one up and said "Where did this come from" while holding one of them i wasnt to happy.

They run about $12 with the N4W discount thru this board. Click one of the links and you can order online. Since you're in Oh-ray-gon, the shipping will probably bump it up closer to $20 again.

make sure that you put the c clip that holds the torsion bar in at the crossmember in this time. Wink maybe that was the problem. it is small and easy to forget when installing a ifs lift.

at least that is how it works on a 89 pathy. the the torsion bar, adjusting arm are held into the rear crossmember with a c clip. if it was gone, the torsion bars could fall out if it hard enough i guess. that could also exlpain why the adjustor bolts were bent too.

I hope that's just an emergency get it on the road fix. Is this your daily driver?

I would check out the N4W home page and hit up one of the advertisers/sponsors listed at teh bottom of the page. You can ge pretty darn close to wholesale prices for new OEM NISSAN parts ,deliverd to your front door. It sounds like you don't have the best junkyard pickings.

TILT METERs are on pinball machines. It was an expression, meaning your offroading became literal, as you were trying to rub the road off on your truck( or was it a stump)- never a good idea unless you have skidplate protection and can take the abuse.
