I'm seriously considering fabbing my own body lift for my '95 HB KC.
I think I've got the 2" risers figured out, and the bolts are easy. Anyone think of any other part I might need for a 2" body lift? I'm fabbing my own bumpers and sliders too, so there's no concerns there. I don't know of anything else I might need. Ideas?

Are you serious?

$100 is all one costs. I've never been a fan of DIY body lifts, when you can buy one that is safe for that little.

very do-able. I would make sure you use some kind of ruber isolation where the mounts are, and if you are using 2x2 box a thick pipe would be a better choice.

2" is MAX for hockey pucks! That's what a buddy o mine used on his Yota. Cost him $35 for pucks and bolts. Wheels the piss out of it too w/38x14.5/15 Swamper SX! I'm not a fan of them (I have a Perfomance Accessories 2" Body Lift), but it works for him, and is no less safe than my Manufactured body lift! Smile I agree though, anything more than 2", should be left up to engineers!

Pucks will split out. They won't hold up over time. Bad idea IMO.

Home Depot sells these really nice washers, they're meant for holding bottom plates of walls to the concrete. They are 2"x2" square with a 1/2" hole in the middle, and 1/4" thick. I think those welded to either end of a 1-1/2" long piece of 2X2 box steel will be more than adequate.

Why do it? Because it'll cost me less than $25 dollars, keep me out of trouble (with the wife, with the world, with everyone) for a while, and I'll be able to brag about it. Basically, as with everything else I do, because I can.

I talked with Thanatoz today (who recently did a BL) and figured out the gas filler tube and vent tube. Anything else gonna be a problem?

Fan shroud is something else to pay attention to. You need the lower piece or overheating is likely when wheeling on a hot day.

this was covered on the AC board. unless your completely broke, buy a kit.
my PA 3" kit came with the pucks and bolts of course, but also
steering shaft extention
shifter extention
radiator drop down kit
gas filler neck extention
a few hose extentions
front bumper reloction brackets
blah blah.
it's very worth it to buy the kit.

I cut the lower half the shroud off. Then again, MN (and VA, where I bought the truck) rarely see many days over 80* in the summer, and days 45* and colder are the norm from Sept thru May! If I make it out AZ, I guess I'll see how it does in some REAL heat! Dad has NO shroud on his '74 CJ-6, and it did fine in 100*+ heat in SoCal. Shrouds are a good thing though, if you can retain it.

The 2" kit (which is what I want) doesn't come with steering extension. I'm making my own bumpers, the relocation brackets are worthless to me. The gas filler neck extension is a short piece of steel tube with 2 hose clamps. I don't need the 'few hose extensions (for power steering lines) with a 2 inch kit (they aren't included with a 2 inch kit anyway). I don't need either shifter extension, and again neither come with the 2 inch kit.

All I need are the blocks, gas filler extension, and possibly a radiator relocation kit (I hadn't thought of that) which, if I can't make something, then they sell it seperately. AC's kit is what, $160? No, it's $170 for a 3 inch kit (I just checked) and they don't even offer a 2 inch kit. I can get a 2 inch kit shipped for around $100, but I'd like to try it myself. I'm not your average guy with a box of mismatched wrenches and a hammer. I have the tools, know-how, and facilities to fabricate almost anything I want. I'm sure it would be easier to buy it, but that's no fun. And if you think it won't be safe, ask Thanatoz how I design stuff. As his dad taught me, 'if one hand grenade will do the trick, throw three'. I live by that motto. Usually Thanatoz is trying to get me to back off of whatever rediculousness I'm trying to overdo.

So, again, anything I've overlooked? Besides common sense. Big Grin

i got my kit from summit, i think it was a little cheaper than AC's, plus being as me and AC are in FL i have to pay tax. and with summit the service is top notch.

If all you need is bolts and pucks, summit does sell generic kits for fairly cheap. just rollers and bolts.
the radiator drop down kit you could easily fab up.
maybe a 6" wide by maybe 14" long beice of steel in kinda a z. about 1.5" for a top ledge, then 3" or 2" for whatever size lift for the drop down, and another 1.5" ledge sticking out towards the engine with the holes in the bottom to hold the radiator.
then the top you can just use little brackets and misc. bolts and nuts.

Regarding the radiator shroud, I cut my lower shroud off as well and now I am experiencing intermittent heating problems.

My solution was alot more expensive than just using the radiator drop, and if I had to do it over again I would have used the drop.

do you have an Auto or manual....with an auto you wont have to do anything in regards to the tranny....a manual you will have to mess with the shifter definitly...adding a 2" round stock piece to it and even then it may slip out of gears if not in there right
