I've stated my opinion on A-arms lifts before, but I'll state it again:
I just don't like A-arm "lifts". They are not a lift at all, bit a ball joint correction for over-torqued torsion bars. It kills steering, ball joints, bushings, and CVs. My stock front end went bad fast enough w/33" tires. I didn't need to add anything to that equation! The kits that Total Chaos sells, now those are nice kits. A-arms, upper and lower, are replaced (mking them stronger than stock). Uniballs replace ball joints. CVs are longer, keeping angles better. Travel is actually increased, not kept the same or decreased. It's just too bad they don't offer it for most Nissans (except 2wd that I know of). I was unaware that stating my opinion of a company's product was "vendor bashing". If I came out and yelled in all caps that the company sucked and nobody should ever buy from them for no reason, that would be bashing.
I too encountered the exact same problems that Spike had. The AC UCA's I had were very poorly welded (several holes through the welds exposing the tubing joints) and had paint that flaked off right away. Hence my comment of "AC's UCA's are crappy". If you do a little bit of searching on most any Nissan offroad-oriented board you will find people telling you the same exact thing. It's not just me. Thank you for your time. I have no problem when you explain yourself like you just did, but you offered no explanation in your previous post.

I have the whole Calmini lift on my truck. Everything works great except for one thing. The UCA bushings.
Mabey they just need a zerk fitting that bad but I've had to replace the bushings every 6-8 months in mine. Calmini even says that that's not right but I still pay the $40.00 price for them. And the other thing I dont understand and something they never answered me on is their "new bushings". They say "CALMINI replacement Vecton upper control arm bushings for the Hardbody suspension lift. Vecton is an oil-impregnated material that is stronger than polyurethane and built to handle extreme situations." The original kit I bought 2 years ago came with polyurethane bushings and now they sell it with these vecton bushings which are supposed to be stronger. I've ordered new buching twice so far and I've never recieved these Vecton bushings. I understand that bushings wear, and thats just life but not that quick. I would still suggest Calmini over AC's products anyday but AC is a big enough vender with enough variety in their products that I wouldn't say "Never buy from them". I got by BL from them and had no problems at all. 94' Hardbody 4x4---Bunch of crap. |

I have the AC a-arms, and they work absolutely fine for me. I bought them due to the low price. I have no squeaking, no messed up welds, no paint chips. My truck alignes fine. I am happy with the product.

I have had my truck for about 2 years now and the A/C UCAs have been on the truck for almost 5 yrs. The bushings have only been replaced once and that was after i bought it. My last set of bushings squeak a little but not bad. I have jumped my truck some and mudded a lot and i keep them cranked almost all the way up and have had NO problems with them at all. No paint flaking or anything, but i think that i would go with the Superlift/ RCs just b/c the better ball joint angles.

my ac arms were way off, I basically ended up making my own by the time it was done. the were too close together to mount on the "spindle", and they were so long the truck couldn't be aligned, even though I had it barely off the bumpstops. I had to cut the a-arms apart, cut 5/8" out of them, sleeve them with some solid rod, weld them back together, then heat then and spread them. they aligned it with no more than 2 shims under any of it.
I also waited forever for leaf springs they guaranteed me would be on time, and didn't get them on time. When they showed up, I installed them and the tire was into the wheelwell. The centerpin distances were flipped. Crap. We called, they were getting new ones made. New onces came to ac the same way, so they didn't bother sending them. I ended up going with ridiculous ly long shackles to keep the rear level, since I had to move 800 miles away for college. After about 3 months of mess, they finally sent me a set of OME springs that worked great. 2004 Titan-fairly stock, '89 Nissan sas swap in progress d60/9", 9", 5.43's/arb's, 38.5x16x15"tsls/beadlocks, winch/air, 3.3L |

I've never bought anything from calmini, but I made 3 phone calls about products, not one of which was anywhere close to being professional.

I've had the Calmini WD21 lift for a couple years. No complaints. I've been re-torquing everything almost constantly but it's not Calmini's fault. The locktite just won't hold.
A friend of mine had AC arms for years. He removed them and gave them to me. Both were farked, explaining the constant alignment problems he had. It was probably a fluke, and we didn't notice the problem when we installed them years before. |
