No pics yet - y'all know I'm still in the stoneage when it comes to photography. But we had a good group - Jason (jmcallis)in an '88 Pathy, Mike (silverfox)in a '97 king cab, Sergio (checo) in his '97 regular cab, Marshall (zhvonte) in his '02 king cab, and me in my '98 heap.

We had a little difficulty getting the whole group together since everyone was coming from different directions and few had ever been to the meeting point before, but by 10:15 or so, we had the group together and we headed for the trailhead up Mt. Ord

It's a pretty easy trail that follows a shelf road up the northwest side of the mountain. The trail gains at least 2000 feet in elevation from beginning to end and the views to be found are spectacular. Tonto Basin to the east, and the mountains dividing where we were from the Verde River to the west. Portions of this trail are a bit rutted, so naturally, I took every tough line I could find just to keep things interesting. Checo was following me and did the same, although I think there was one spot where he found the limitation of an open diff. This trail is easily navigated in a totally stock truck, however, as long as you stay out of the ruts.

Once on top, we had an extended beverage break and lunch. I haven't wheeled with Checo, Silverfox, or Jmcallis before, so it was great getting to know these guys. I hope all will become fixtures on SWANKy runs in the future. A nice breeze blew across the top of the mountain as we sat in the shade of the sparse pine trees and plentiful scrub Oaks. Turned out to be a good day to be away from the city.

Pictures someday.

Let me tell ya'all something... It is dang difficult to keep up with DR. Man, I just wish I had a locker (I wouldn't have chickened out on that one DR big grin ).

It was lots of fun... specially when I got stuck on that last part, reved it and got a little momentum goin on (when DL took the pic).. Hope to see that pic DR smile. I will be my next sig pic.

To bad I had to leave early frown. I was so pissed because of that. Also, on my way back, I rallied the whole way down. It was awsome. I was doing 45 to 50 mph. I was fishtailing in those corners! It was fun, since the road was in very good shape!

Hey.. My steering is still in very good shape. I thought I samshed it that one time I hit a hole and it bounced be right back.. When I got home, I checked and it's still "TIGHT". Maybe it because of my close-to-stock backspacing I have on my wheels big grin. Man, I love my truck.

all right... back to work!!!

Yes it was a fun little trip, just to get out of the city makes it all the worthwhile.... Makes it really nice that it only takes 20 minutes to get to the turnoff and another 20 minutes to the top of the mountain (easy way) and an hour the hard way.

GOT BOULDER??????????

I think it would be kindof fun to camp up there overnight, and then spend the next entire day playing on the other side of beeline highway checking out all the cool mines and stuff. I dont know if there are any tough trails for say, but definitely worth going thru there if you like exploring. I know there is so much more over there than what little time datz, DR, and myself spent that one day.
