Talk about a heck of a day. The courses this week were crazy tough but doable. I hit a stroke of bad luck for once and DNF'ed each course. Pretty frustrating. Both the Scout and the other Jeep buggy also DNF'ed them all but the F-toy did get about 20 more points on us.
First course I broke a U-joint in the front while doing a front dig. It was a weird break though that I had not seen before, the cross and caps were fine, but the cross was peeled out of the yoke like someone just pulled it off without loosening the straps. In the process the yoke was also ruined but I was able to put on some new caps and patch it up for the rest of the day. We went wheeling for a while and about an hour before the next run I had a wire short and in the process it burned most of the wires in the Jeep. luckily with the help of some very nice people we were able to re-wire the entire Jeep in about 30 minutes (gotta love the propane simpleness). However at this point my bigger e-fan took a dump on me, it had been making some noise eariler in the day but it choose that time to lock up. So I was going into the next run with only one little fan. Didnt matter though as I only made it about 1/3rd the way through the course when I blew a front tire bead. It had about 10psi and had lasted for 3 weeks before hand but I figured I must have hit something at just the wrong angle. About 7 guys (other competitors) came to my aid in true sportsman like action and helped re-set the bead. It ended up taking lots of ether and a stroke of luck to get it back on. We watched the other class run some before our final course, We I saw the course the line was crazy. It was clear to me that we were given an impossible line to drive, we decided that I was going to give it one attempt and we would pull a winch. Turned out that the F-toy did this and completed the course, when it was my turn I have it an assult and blew the same tire bead again with 15psi this time. Called it quits at that point and went home. http://smkymtns.com/Gulches/08/GulchesMega4x4Challenge_...t3-061408/index.html 1992 Pathfinder SAS RIP 1994 pathy RIP 1982 720 RIP 1985 720 turbo diesel - Sold 1979 CJ-5 - Sold 1994 4Runner - Sold 1992 YJ buggy - RIP 1993 BMW 318i - DD 1996 BMW 328Cis - new toy |

yeah, they do get expensive!
you could probably get away with using a higher pressure couldn't you? (considering you aren't exactly crawling a lil glue and 10-15lbs of pressure you will probably be fine... 2005 Nissan Titan 4X4 with some mods... |
