He was driving up this trail and said hit something and lost his transmission at the very end, and then he said a fire started and there was no water around to get it out. Kind of sucks because he just put new tires on it and hubs. It took us a while to pull it out, and to clean up all the burnt parts left on the ground.

Last week

Flipped it over to put it in neutral, didn't have to do that, but it was allot more fun.

Oh man that sucks to be your friend. SOrry for his loss.

Fate can be a real biotch , sometimes...

Maybe a rock kicked up and grounded out a hot lead or maybe the trans going out was because he lost fluid presssure and maybe it overheated enough to start a fir, but I'd lean more toward an electrical problem...

OF course it could be that a fuel line got dislodged somehow along the frame where they are usually routed and got fuel where it shouldn't have been.

Bummer.

Sorry to hear that though.. it sucks to lose a rig that you've put a lot of money and effort into.

"The $20.57 switch shuts off the cruise control when the driver firmly steps on the brakes. The switch is located under the hood of the vehicle and is attached to the brake master cylinder on one end and wired to the cruise control on the other.

On most of its models, Ford designed the switch to be powered -- or "hot" -- at all times, even when the vehicle is off and the key is removed from the ignition.

Inside the switch, a thin film barrier separates brake fluid from the switch's electrical components. Investigators say fires can occur when the film cracks and brake fluid from the master cylinder seeps into the electrical side of the switch.

Ford has already recalled more than 1 million vehicles in two separate recalls to replace the switch."

90% of Fords originally built are still on the road. The other 10% made it home.
