Ok, I made some phone calls today and finally found the person that we have to talk to. Tonto does not have an actual "adopt a trail" program, but they do allow people to help improve the trails as long as they do it within the regulations. The guy is out in the field until Thursday, but the lady took down my information so he should call me back. I'll find the particulars and then we'll see what we can do. I'll keep y'all posted.

Ok, I guess we'll need to find out what kinds of regulations we need to follow for doing the repair. Also, if you can, can you ask him if we would be able to post a couple tasteful signs on the trail showing that we are maintaining the trail? It would be nice to be able to take credit for the trail repair after putting in much effort and $$ for it.

I wonder if the forest service would help supply materials then, if they will only allow us to "help"?

That'd be really cool if they provided the materials and we just did the volunteer work. When I used to work for the USFS, that's how it worked, but those were typically projects the USFS wanted to do, not ones the volunteers pointed out. We'll see. Either way we'll be sure to toot our own horn over this.

Okay, I watched the first video before class, and I'm kinda confused... I see about 1 ft on the outside of the vehicle... confused How offcamber was that section? Maybe it was the video, but it looked rather flat. When are you guys going to run this again? I want to travel along with someone.

It looks like a foot on the video because the video doesn't show the dip where it's washed aout and about 3" from the outside of the tires. TRUST ME Mikey - it's bad there. It's pretty flat right next to the rock, but it's off camber approaching it and going past the other side. Not more than about 8-12 degrees, probably, but that's damn nerve racking when you're looking at rolling a few hundred feet if you slip.

I took some measurements today. I'm about 72" wide tire edge to tire edge. 72" tall at the top of the windshield. 55" tall at the front of the hood. The flex I'm going to have is just plain sick. big grin

That was pretty dicey, no doubt. My question is, why were you throwing the dirt from the little trench right out onto the road where you want all the traction you can get? Ah, it was probably no different than before eh?

I was in the same predicament with my mudflaps on Sunday, but managed to avoid ripping it off. Had someone bend it backwards up onto the rock before I backed over the rock. Still managed to yank it off one of the screws.

Good stuff,
Brent

Brent, I was actually shoveling it over the edge. You're right...I didn't want that any looser than it already was.

It was already like marbles there. I slipped a few times while walking on it. I know we did put some of the dirt we dug up onto the low side of the trail.. but it was more dirt and a little better than the decomposing granite stuff. And we packed it down real good before we drove over it.

Possible RenoPass Road Building materials/choices:
1.rubble from the area stacked up to build up the roadbed on the low side- might not be solid enough- existing DG is rotten- some downhill reinforcement needed for repair to last.

2. bring in materials( concrete, lots of water, rebar( $$$$)

3. dig down the high side and grenade the boulder w/ sledgehammers, digging bars, etc.

4. combinations of all three
