On the first week of October, I drove the Meany up to Wyoming to do some elk hunting with my dad (can you believe I don't have the elk pics???) Anyway, since DL took my digital, I was left with a 35mm and stale film, so the pic quality isn't what I'd hoped, but enjoy anyways.

From somewhere in southern Utah near Mexican Hat I drove up some switchbacks and peered back at the desert floor to the east. This is about 45 minutes north of Monument Valley...

The little spot I found to camp for the night and the surrounding views...

Fall color in the Aspens...

A few mule deer running away from the truck...

More colors along the river...

Took 4wd to get here this day. What is it? It's called 3 corners. It's the confluence of the Utah, Colorado, and Wyoming state lines.

Look Mom, I'm in 3 states!

Looking into Wyoming from 3 corners

I think the truck is parked in Utah...

Kinda dark with the storm clouds, but the aspens sure show up...

Gratuitous Meany shot

Weirdest thing...the log wedged between two aspens. The trees had actually grown around it on both sides....

Streaks of rain to the south viewed from the Pine Mtn summit....about 9600 ft.

Andy, I think that truck's a little too big for that bridge. Wink Awesome photos though!

Another view

Looking south towards Colorado

Cool backdrop from on top of the mountain

Snow capped peaks in the distance

2 track on one of the local ranches...

Amazing...this little creek was teaming with Colorado Cutthroat trout...

My dad is trying to spot the trout in the creek next to the road...

Just after climbing the hill the ranchers said we shouldn't climb. It switchbacks down to the left and traverses a shale slide....about a 23 degree lean with a 400+ foot roll to the downhill side. Needless to say I went SLOW.

View of the valley from the top

Dad shot his antelope that afternoon with a .454 Casull revolver. Same gun he downed his 5pt bull elk with.

Meany waiting for a load of antelope meat. I actually carried a cooler on my shoulder from the kill site back to the truck with about 35lbs of meat off the antelope...

Little muley buck

More deer

From a little spot on my brother's ranch. You can see Flaming Gorge reservoir in the distance.

Bushwhacking on my brother's land looking for a spot to find elk next year. There's a water tank up this draw with LOTS of fresh tracks and poop. Guess there's been a big bull in there.

Took about $15 in quarters to get my damn truck clean after this trip...

yet another panoramic view

Meany flexin a bit...

So on the way home I stopped in Moab for an hour or so and drove down to Potato Salad hill to see if anyone was playing.

Being righted by two winches. That guy isn't standing in the smartest spot. It was the most gentle flop I've ever seen tho...give the driver credit for that.

All in all....8 days. 1800 miles in a SAS'd Nissan. Lots of wheeling. Lots of fun. Great weather. No people.

Coming home wasn't easy.

You betcha. Let it idle up a hill in 1st gear.

Not on Potato salad tho...I was too loaded down with all my gear and riding on 40lbs of air pressure.

Wow, awesome pics, Andy. Seeing those pics reminds me of North Central WA out deer hunting in the fall, though the elevation isn't as much.

Sure is pretty.

I'm gonna have to pick your brain about areas to go up that direction for the Green and Flaming Gorge. I want to take like 3 weeks next fall and trout fish out that direction.

Congrats to your Dad on his 'lope and Elk.
