Jim's bumper...that's a funny story. He kept the Nissan chrome as you can see. The double tube part is a yota smittybilt bumper with the grill hoop removed. The grill guard is a left over custom piece from a dirt track racecar. He welded in a receiver box for the winch, and the mounting is all custom a la Redneck Repair and Recovery using bits of scrap metal that were laying around.

Duerk, Jim is one of the SWANKy originals. We've missed him horribly on runs lately since he changed shifts at Nissan and doesn't get weekends off any more.

That's the assumption I'm working from. Figure if I kill it early, more motivation to get a locker, but the Mexican mod will buy me the time that I'm sure I'll need. I figure I won't be ready to go locked until about the time the E-locker was last expected to be out, and that's what I'm hoping to get.

Jim has a C200 rear axle, so it wouldn't work in the Pathy's anyway. Not sure if the Mexican LSD for an H233B is also better.

Looks like that X-90 got a solid axle stuck under the back. Was the front swapped too?

Cool that a 98 Frontier ran the Rubicon. I wonder how many days it took?

Last October I ran the Rubicon in my Pathfinder from Loon Lake to Walker Hill, where I called it quits and hopped in my brother-in-law's modified '00 Wrangler. The goal was to make it out to Spider Lake, each lunch, and turn around. It took us 3.5 hours to make it from Loon Lake to Spider Lake (That's only about 1.5 miles - the Rubicon is around 10 miles, I think.) The guys in modified 'yotas, Jeeps, and Broncos who passed us on the trail asked me "I've never seen one of those out here before. What year is that Nissan?"
I said "A 97."
To which one replied "My wife would kill me if I took a '97 out here!" (He was driving a doorless flatbed '85 Toy with 38" tires and a host of other mods, I'm sure.)

I believe that the entire Rubicon can be done in a locked Nissan, but you're still gonna be spending a night or two on the trail...

Yeh, that's a given... Unless you have approach/departure/breakover angles over 60 degrees and really don't care about body damage.

The Little Sluice contains 3 to 4-foot-high boulders.

I would guess that even mildly modified Jeeps probably bypass the Little Sluice.

Check out some great pics of the Rubicon here

Mike, my last truck was slipping really really bad when I sold it. On this new one, I been riding on it really hard out on the trail. It's seems to be already acting different than when I first got it. It just may only need the clutch realigned. I am only a few hundred short of 10k miles.

No, why would they? The diff still does its job just fine. I do get a teeny chirp out of them now and then when powering around a corner at an intersection, and frequently when pulling into the road where there is a 1" lip between the parking lot and the roadway or the like. Otherwise, it's no different on the street.
