Unfortunately the transmission is acting up in my truck so I couldn't drive this time. The good news is that because of this i could drink a lot of beer while taking tons of pics.

So here is my friends getting super swamped on trails in Southern Ontario last Sunday.

Life is good, spring is beautiful and mud is ultra deep!

Gotta ask...what's the deal with the sock?

You guys are fearless in that deep water!

My buddy has found out the hard way (after he has been warned over and over by me and others) than the K&N cone filter shouldn't be installed in off road vehicles going through water. He claimed that his K&N water resistant bag (some K&N marketing bullscrap that he was talked into) will save him...

Pretty much all other trucks have real or half snorkels (that goes under the fender right up to your mirror).

Needless to say we had to dry out the K&N cone on the trail, and the sock was put on there so we could crank the engine a bunch of times to clear it up without worrying of getting anything else sucked in there.

For the record, am very much against K&N filters in off road vehicles or on road vehicles for that matter. Studies have shown that performance improvements are actually very minor, and only when the filter is brand new. K&Ns due to their oiled nature get clogged up extremely fast and actually are much worse on average than your standard air filter. In off road situations this is accelerated even further. Also pretty much nobody that has K&N carries spares. Nissan filters are cheap, and I have two spare new ones shrink wrapped ready for action if need arises, and i already had to use up a few.

So yea, buddy learned his lesson, he's getting a snorkel, and addmited that he should have listened to us.

PS. K&N in racing vehicles is a whole different issue, but usually they use no filters or just a wire mesh. Plus they get to rebiuild their engines on race by race basis.

I agree with you about oiled filters..that's for sure. If that R50 wants to know how to install a super ugly snorkel i can tell him how.
