Welp, we're back.. Long trip, short trail (the hard part at least), but we had a BLAST.

This trail is northwest of Jerome and Prescott, AZ and is actually a portion of the Great Western Trail. Most of the trail is very easy, and is really just an old railroad bed-turned-road. The difficult portion was about 3-4 miles in length and was rated a 3.0-3.5/5 due to the very large boulders that you've got to crawl over. We were all wishin for crawler gears after the miles of wash that we ran. Some of the boulders were about 3ft in diameter. We all pretty much walked right up all the obstacles though with no breakage, and minimal metal-to-rock contact.

After we ran this trail, we found quite a view from an old livestock dam set up high in the mountains. It was dry, so you could drive up to the edge.. and literally be perched thousands of feet above the desert floor down below.

Later, we continued on down about 40-50 miles of the Great Western Trail. It was really pretty easy, but presented spectacular views, and lots of fun side trails.

Funny "No Trespassing" sign:

Gorgeous view from the old Jerome railroad grade on the way to the more difficult trail:

Sections of the hill removed for the railroad (now the road):

Me going up the first obstacle (there were lots of sweet hillclimbs on this trail!):

Flip going up the first obstacle:

Andy cutting it close on an optional boulder obstacle (no, he didnt dent the rocker.. and yes, the truck really is offcamber like that):

Lined up at the start of the boulder field:

Andy starting the boulder field:

A Horned Toad was just one of the many critters we saw. This guy was just watchin us wheel. Later we saw a grey fox walking along next to our trucks on the trail.

Me crawlin up the boulders.

Trying to spot myself up some rocks. Pretty hard to do when you cant see where the front of the truck is.

Flip making easy work of the boulders.

Flip getting some spotting from Andy.

Flip testing out his modified nerf bars.

Looking up the wash at our trucks. Mines kinda flexed out in this pic. big grin

Yeah, about 250 miles counting highway time...well, at least for me since I live farther away from there than Flip and John.

It was a great day to be out and to celebrate the reopening of the forest land here in Arizona. The rocky washes were fun, and there were some fun hillclimbs too. Scenery from riding the ridge on Mingus mountain looking north to the Verde Valley, Mogollon rim, and San Francicso Peaks, and south towards the Bradshaw mountains was stellar. Most of the GW trail was 2wd road, but the washes and the scenery more than made up for that.

Downer of the day - A truck threw up a rock on I10 after I left John's place and he broke my windshield. Got a crack making it's way across frown

Oh well, full glass coverage is a beautiful thing!

Ouch about the windshield.

At least you'll get a new one.

I'd request Nissan glass to be put in, since the aftermarket glass sometimes tends to chip easier.

Nice try Mikey. I like my AC and the ability to stay dry in the truck when it rains.

Yup, it snowed last winter on the north side of town...

Dang, Will....you say that like it's a bad thing. We gotta go drive 100+ miles to get into the trees here. Otherwise we have C + actus. and lots of S + un big grin:D

But the vistas are nice. I know it's kinda flat on your end of the world, but all that green is kinda nice too.

As always, nice pics John. Wish I could have made it. Nice to have a small group like that. Did you find any mud holes up there?
