WTF? I'm not doing that. I don't even understand why that is necessary? Do you guys just take it in someplace to ahve it done or how do you do it?

Hmmm...I just pulled the cap off the top and drained the radiator. I wasn't trying to flush it.

What you could do is get a bunch of buckets, drain the rad, close valve and fill it back up with water, run motor for a min(til warm at least, so the thermostat opens up), drain rad again, repeat.

I don't know how much coolant stays in the block when the radiator is drained, so a full-blown flush might not be neccessary.

Give me ambiguity or give me something else.

There's two drainplugs on the side of the block but a pain to get to, most just drain and fill with water, run the engine for a couple minutes and repeat until the fluid is fairly clean. There's some cleaner you can put in with the water that will clean it out too. Then do a final drain and refill with 50/50 coolant. If you've kept up with your coolant changes every 30k or so I wouldn't think it would be too bad in there, couple drain/fills with water and you should be good to go.

That sounds good. Use soft water or distilled water for the final flush to cut down on future gunk and corrosion.

for a homemade flush, I get a small fitting from the parts store, it splices into a heater hose (or really, any cooling system hose thats 5/8 or 3/4"), and allows you to tee in a garden hose... so you hook the garden hose up, open up the rad cap, crank on the garden hose, then start the motor. its amazing the crap that comes flying out of the rad cap. when you're done, drain to appropriate level, and add coolant. Oh, the fitting for the garden hose comes with a plug, so you just leave it in there plugged up until next time.

It's hard to say how well the maintenance was kept up on in the past. I just bought it so i'm pretty much running through everything on the maintenance schedule. It's about to hit 90k, so even if they did keep up, most of this stuff is due.
