I have been looking at the Old Man Emu suspension upgrade kits and I wanted some advice. I looked at the other posts and some other sites and the equipment seems great. I do some moderate offroading now and I want to equip my Pathfinder to be capable of some decent rock hopping. Please give me some general advice on this equipment. Thank you for your time.

Can you get OME in the US? That would be cool. I have a freind who is looking for a lift for his R50.

Didn't Calmini make a lift for R50s...it's not on the web site anymore Confused

Nevermind about Calmini...it hasn't been mass produced yet. It had coilovers up front, so it would be $$$.

92PATHSE, I was looking at your album, and IMG_1300 has a red R50 in it that looks stunning. Who's is it?

That's BurgPath(Kevin). It's a 98 also. He's a member over here I think. He's got AC's 2" coils, but they gave him about 3" of lift. Other mods: Rancho shocks in the rear, air bags in the back for when he hauls a camper, sliders just like Deans, Warn hubs, 31x10.50 BFG ATs, and various other stuff. He's got a TJM bumper waiting to be installed also I think.

I put one on my 2001. I got the confort lift. That came with medium rear and soft front springs. My front went up about 3/4" and the rear was 1 1/2". They told me the HD front was if I was running a bull bar. I hope the rear will settle some more.

Hey JPool,

I am struggling with the decision of which lift to install on my 02 Pathy.

What are your thoughts on the 1" OME lift?

How long have you had the lift installed?

Has either the front or rear springs settled any?

How did the lift effect the ride?

Thanks,

Hi Hatteras,

The OME 1" soft front is what I got. There is also a HD front. Both come with medium rear springs. Mine is jacked up in the rear, I am dissapointed in this. Above numbers are off. It is more like 3/4 in front and 1 3/4 in the rear.

Numbers above already had settleing.

Ride is OK. I have about 700 miles or so on it.

On the lifts, I liked the 1 lift over the 2 lift because of all the topping out problems the 2 was having. If I could figure out some way to either lower the rear or rais the front another inch with some sort of strut spacer, I would be happy. I wish some one made a 1 inch all the way around lift. That would be the ticket for me.

Biggest problem is with adjusting the brake valve (long spring on rear drive axle). I did not look at it before lift. Make sure you look at it before and see if it is closed, open or somewhere inbetween from the factory. Also, if you would post that info here it would be great.

I had the 2 inch lift from AC on my pathy. I had the soft springs but it still gave me 3 full inches of lift after settling. I returned them because I was having so many various problems. Some of these problems included:

I experienced the exaggerated pinion angles between the rear differential and the transfer case. This caused a loss of power and lagging acceleration response from the vehicle. This also caused the vehicle to violently vibrate in 4wd in speeds excess of 30mph. On inspection by a Nissan mechanic, this can also cause premature wear in the transfer case gears.

Delayed or slower steering response from the vehicle. The pressure of the springs in the strut assembly renders the strut bearing almost non-functional. This prevents the strut assembly from rotating freely as it should. This could cause damage to the power steering components of the vehicle as well as prohibiting the driver from being in full control of the vehicle.

You'll be hard pressed to find any lift for any vehicle that doesn't degrade road drivability. That's the price for improved offroad performance.

Dang, I had no idea you had those kinds of issues. I have a steering issue now, when I turn the wheel (at idle) there is an odd noise. It sounds like its grinding(?), don't know its hard to describe.

I haven't gotten to Nissan yet but will soon.

You could have installed manual hubs, that would have stopped the 4 wheel drive shimmy you experienced.

I am hopeful that my front springs will loosen up a bit with use, right now if I hit a dip in the road the right strut tops out. The left never does so I am beginning to wonder if there is an issue. Again, I guess I'll let Nissan have a look than call KYB if something is pooched.
