If the fade and balance is set to the default then it sounds ok, but if i fade to say the front left speakers it sounds like hell and is very quiet with major distortion. Switch to the front right and it sounds perfect and loud.

Switch to like 50/50 in the front and it sounds ok again. It's very weird.

Get a new stereo

That sounds alot like my bro's stock Jeep stereo. He got a new one last week and it sounds alot better. I was thinking it was just the speakers...

I have a nice alpine stereo, but i'm not sure i want to toss it in there. I have an LE and the bose looks really sharp in htere. heh

I'll tell ya what.. a good unit sounds much better than the stock setup. I had the 8 speaker clarion setup in my SE. It sounded good I though.. until I put in a new clarion headunit and bypassed the stock amps. Sounds much better now.

I ain'tan audio wizkid, but, to start troubleshooting this yourself, you could swap speakers side to side and see if the problem moves w/ the speakers or not. That would narrow it down some.

yeah, not a bad idea. I just discovered that the bose speakers have built in amps, so it could just be the amps that are the problem. I'd like to get rid of this thing and get some new speakers.

I just don't want to put in my skinny little alpine. I htink that'll look like crap.

ahh, yep.. those bose speakers are known for blowing out.. repairing the amps isnt cheap. You'll be better off just replacing all of them and the head unit.
