SHE bought it. I'd never have my name on the title of a freakin' NISSAN... Have you SEEN the losers that drive those things around??? Big Grin Just kidding! I actually took it for a little spin last night. It drives REALLY nicely... Although she frowned upon my trying to RTI it on the landscaping rocks. Complain Roll Eyes lol

Only problem I see so far, is she's still driving it like a modded Mustang...

Make that TWO problems... Now she's complaining that she can't park her new car in the garage (ie: rockcrawler/tools/materials take up all that space)... I said, "We ALL have to make sacrifices. Buy a car cover." That went over like a fart in a divers helmet." FartBig Grin

Nah, she said she wouldn't even let me take it up Competition Hill down in Rocky Point. Gonna be tough getting the diesel up there... Bigger tires and more boost I guess.

They are great vehicles mechanically. The one problem area I have heard about is the rear suspension bushings. I dont think its all that common, but I've heard of a few with the problem. When the bushings in the rear links wear, the truck will kinda wobble going down the highway. So, just check that the truck drives good on the highway. If it feels nice, tight, and responsive, it should be ok.

I just changed the rea suspension bushings.. all 4. Cost $6.00 a piece special order. Not too hard to sawzall out, pounding in the new ones was hard.. but doable.. no more wobble..

I was getting 15 mpg after new plugs/cap rotor etc. Now since the K&N and modified air box I just got a new record 18mpg.. mostly city driving though.

Mine only gets about 14 in the city and 18 on the highway. I recently gave it a full tuneup.

14!! I was getting 15 when it started running on 5 cylinders, cap and rotor (original) started failing. LE only come with Autos right?

For a test; try removing the inner fender air box resonator. This thing connects the air inlet tube (hidden in the fender) to the air box (the one with the filter in it). The air temp sensor is plugged into it, just unplug from box and ziptie somewhere. This is what everyone is doing when they install the cone Air intake systems. I drilled 20 1inch holes in this box and my power and MPG went up. The power gain feels awesome, slightly roar when fuel throttle but not noisy.

Did you use stock NGK plugs cap and rotor? or something else??

Yeah, i went with NGK plugs.. didn't change the distributor cap, rotor or wires.

I just did pcv, plugs, fuel, air, diff and crankcase fluids, transmission fluid, and cleaned the throttle body up so my pedal would stop sticking.

Yeah, all LE's are autos. If you have any tips i'd love to hear them. I'll take a look at what you're talking about this weekend and might give it a try.

I am trying to get mileage up as well. Let me know if what I typed did not make sense. But I am definitely getting better gas mileage since drilling holes in that box and the K&N filter.

I hear everyone talking about those K&N Filters but i read on one of these nissan sites about some dude suing K&N for engine damage. it kind of turned me off.

I don't know specifically what you're talking about, but i'm sure it's easy to find. It's just a couple of screws if i remember correctly to lift that box up and have a look. I had it apart to during the tune up because i cleaned out the box and then the throttle body since my pedal was sticking.

is there any negative consequences to drilling those holes? I am always scared to go off of the manufacturer specs. I wouldnt' want to introduce a mixture into the engine that could cause damage or more dirt into the engine.

I wonder if the placement matters. I guess you'd want to think about the possibility of water or raining coming in and plan accordingly.

WOW never heard about the engine damage...

I have been using K&Ns in all 7 of my nissans and 2 odysseys (atvs) without any problems. now lots of companys make similar air cleaners, free flowing...

Removing the air resonator is just going to increase noise, thats why i drilled holes. Most people just remove and discard.

The box muffles the air intake to make the engine sound quieter. ALL aftermarket air intakes replace this box with a straight pipe with a cone filter at the end. I am like you I do not like too mess with stock setups. I did not even open the hood. The air box is above the tire under a plastic inner fender well, not under the hood. The air box with the filter is connected to thi via a huge hole in the inner fender.

I would rather modify stock parts than use aftermarket hoses and air intake. I do want to try good quality headers one day.

Oh, i assumed it was just underneath the filter box. I'll have to try and take that fender cover off and take a look.

I did some reading and you're right. All that resonator is for is reducing noise at the cost of power.
