I have a 97 Pathfinder SE and was wondering if its worthwhile to look into headers and/or exhaust for the truck. I have read some threads and there was talk that its not worth it? That's why there isn't really a kit out there. Just seeing what are some people's take and if there are suggestions on what people have done with their pathy. Thanks in advance.

Stillen stopped selling there headers. Its a tight fit and the OEM cats are goofy.
I might stick some Thorleys or SLR headers in there one day if I ever have trouble with the OEM manifolds. I will have to add aftermarkets cats though. Still not sure if the SLR or Thorleys will actually fit in the Unibody. Nobody has tried. I might try one of My pace setters from the D21 see if they fit. I think they will. I definitely plan to replace the stock 2 into one muffler VERY soon. Probably with a magnaflow. Thats the quietest muffler I can find. Would replacing the stock muffler increase performance in anyway? or would the whole exhaust need work to make that happen for the pathy?

YES. Thats why cat backs are so popular. Trade off is there noiser than stock. My Hardbody with 35s is fast in my opinion with just headers and glasspack. Barry 93 D21 King Cab SE - 35s, SAS 3 link! 92 Pathfinder SE - SAS 3 link 04 Quest SE - stock, perfect!!! |

If there isn't a cat back kit for the 97 Pathy what would you recommend? Just muffler? Try and fit some headers?
Also, I read a thread somewhere about the PAthy liking the back pressure? |

No engine likes back pressure IMO. I'll post the results when I do the new muffler. Theres no bolt on kits that I know of. I am going to weld the muffler on myself and delete the resonator.
Any muffler shop can weld on a magnaflow or flowmaster etc for under $100. Barry 93 D21 King Cab SE - 35s, SAS 3 link! 92 Pathfinder SE - SAS 3 link 04 Quest SE - stock, perfect!!! |

If you could post the results when you are done that would be great. Thanks!
Yeah, I've tried looking for bolt on kits and doesn't seem like there are any out there. |

System F put on a magnaflow 24" last year. I forget what the power difference was/is.
He might chime in here soon... Barry 93 D21 King Cab SE - 35s, SAS 3 link! 92 Pathfinder SE - SAS 3 link 04 Quest SE - stock, perfect!!! |

I'm tempted to try out the SLR headers in mine.
Nissannut, if you do ever try the Thorleys, make sure to post how it turns out! |

Oh I will. Everyone is looking for headers. I was going to buy the thorleys for the Hardbody and test fit them on the Pathfinder. I ended up finding the pace setters for $100 new. I might try the pacesetters on the pathy just as a test. The stock cats are huge so they should fit. I'm running duel exhaust from the cat back. No muffler.
I Have yet to notice any horsepower upgrades. 1995 KC XE-V6 4x4. |

I noticed a huge power increase with headers and glasspack, stock cat (170k). Never ran it with just headers or glasspack.
The Pathy muffler is a monster that weighs a ton, super quiet. Barry 93 D21 King Cab SE - 35s, SAS 3 link! 92 Pathfinder SE - SAS 3 link 04 Quest SE - stock, perfect!!! |
