Alright, I know Ive been starting alot of topics lately, and making a post whore of myself, but I would like to get this figured out.

What is the big problem with SOA on 60-Series Patrols? Before my Patrol, I had a Full-Size Jeep. Performing SOA on the front was almost like the Jeep reaching puberty(excuse the simile, analogy, or what ever)! I know there cant be any problem with doing it on the rear... Whats the big ussue with the front?

I personaly can't see any thing wrong with it.

You going to use stock Nissan axles or go to Yotas? If staying with stock axle, then you have a pitman arm issue/steering set up issues. IMO, go Yota solid axle and just get it over with.

One thing is this, are Patrols pass or drivers drop?

If not pass. drop like I am led to believe then just go with D44 or D60s .

swapping in different manufacter axles will be alot easier and less stresful then trying to design and make a steering set up that would hold up on the trail, if you do this custom "steering set up" then think of replacement parts that WON'T be readily avalable to you.

Look at the Jeep community for SOA set ups, they do it dailey, I will be doing it my Jeep, but the after market pitman arms and other steering components are avalable, not with that Patrol of yours. Wink

Just my 2 cents, most will tell you how ever, I have no sense to begin with Wink

My patrol is SOA, but it was done with D44 & 9". Its doable with the stock drivetrain.

One thing, if you go SOA, you will want to run w/ no roof to bring the center of gravity back down. With SOA, rearched springs, and 36" swampers, mine is really tall. 7' at the top of the cage. The bottom of the rocker/door is at 31".

Well, if steering is the only ussue, its very doable! I got to noticing that our 60-Series Patrols have Flat-Top Knuckles. Some D44's came with Flat Top knuckles. Would I be so lucky as the bolt pattern on top being the same? Doubtful, but it would be nice! A High-Steer arm can be added to the passenger-side knuckle, just like a D44, and an extended draglink can be fabbed. Some times, the best designs are already on different trucks, youve just gotta kind 'borrow' the idea...

Also, when salvage yardin today, I noticed that the front end on the 80's Toyota minitrucks are already SOA. Thats what I would do if all else fails.

Would the front driveshaft run at too extreme of an angle? Would it have to be replaced with a high-angle CV?

mines angles arent too extreme. Its got high angle shafts on it tho w/ CV conversion and splined extension. Keep in mind that you can get U joints and CVs now that work at 40+ degree angles. THis is what I'll be using on my Pathy when it comes time to do the SAS.

Well, the rear wouldnt be the big issue, as I see it. The front would be since its shorter. I know that you can clearance the front ones since they will only be moving at slow speeds. Tell me more about these U-Joints and CV's that can run at more than 40 degrees.

My rear driveshaft on the Patrol is right around 14" long when compressed. With the Ford drivetrain swap, the front shaft is much longer than the rear on mine.

These 40 degree U joints were covered recently in one of the later 4 wheel drive mags I believe. I tried looking for it, but I still have all the magazines packed up from my move. They look to definitely be the way to go for high misalignment applications.

My rear shaft runs at about a 35 degree angle. The front runs at about 20 degrees.

DAYUM! Yeah, a person would need a high-angle CV for that. A stock CV is not supposed to run over 18 degrees...
