well, my truck is nearly out of the machine shop. My motor is good just as I expected. Compression on lowest cylinder is at 115, not bad at all. This was before the head job too. I should have the truck back early next week running better than it ever has.

The parts for the head ran me $200 and this was also with a complete gasket kit for the motor. I used PPU parts and they fit perfect, not a single prob. You can get all the stuff to re-do the head at MotorPower. Talk to Danny. Yet, he only has guides, valves, springs and gaskets. If you need more I am your man...I can get camshafts believe it or not. USA made or Japan made.

Will report on how well the truck runs soon....very excited about it!

Well, I won't be driving it long after I get in back in few days. I just sold the 64 for $9000!

That is it...no longer my truck, I will miss it but always more trucks. Wink

You guys can now say anything you like about the fuel tank on it.... Big Grin

Oh yea, here is a picture of the Patrol that is replacing the blue 64. A 1980 LG61 with MQ 4spd, MQ steering box, special top and H260 rear diff! Oh yea...I am stoked!

The head is rebuilt. new valves, springs, guides hardend seats, head gasket, manifold gasket. Weber is on and is sweeeet! New distro, water pump, water inlets, coil, plugs, wires, oil pressure unit, water temp unit, new valve cover and more! They didn't paint it like they were supposed to but it cost less than quoted also so no biggie. I can paint it in place and plan on it. The steering shaft will be painted too. Weber has electric choke, uses stock linkage slightly modified. Old breather on valve cover is as seen now and will dump some, no biggie to me as I wash the motors on my trucks often. The trucks runs sooooo awesome, better than any other P-troll I have driven, even my 66. It starts without a hitch. Revs well under all conditions and I notice a slight power increase. When I picked it up today we drove around the city until we found an vacant lot by a car wash. It was muddy and very bumpy, lot's of small ruts, bumps that could easily high center a stock P-troll. 2ft deep pot holes as big as the front of my truck all over, Like moguels. Any ways, this was a good test and the truck performed awesome. The new suspension is amazingly agile, more than expected for sure! I kept thinking we were going to get stuck as it was slick and easy to high center or loose traction. Not single prob and it kept on wheeling, never touched any where and I was playing on some 4ft tall dirt bike jumps. I am stoked on the truck...it is ready to rock!

It is now mine again! Roll Eyes The people who had bought it even payed me a deposit to hold the truck. They decided today that since it lacks seat belts and a horn they didn't want it. They asked if I would put this on it and I said Not for the screaming deal you are getting...they said ok we don't want the truck! Like I am going to do more or haggle when I just dropped $2k on the motor. I have no prob keeping this awesome P-troll awhile longer and finding the right buyer. Be cool to sell it locally and see it around plus maybe wheel with them once in awhile. I got hundreds of hours into this truck and I will be damned if I am giving it away! Chug

Bet it will even start with the hand crank! Congrats Ian! Oh yeah, and are you currently trying out one of those new electronic dizzy caps yet?

What do you mean it dont have seat belts or a horn? I have a stock horn. Its not in the best condition, though... It has a chip in the metal around where the sound exits. It works, though.

Soon, I will have an extra drivers side seat belt and buckle, too... I will be installing a 6-point roll cage or atleast a roll bar with some shoulder belts...

Here is some progress news of my own...

I drove my Patrol to tech school for the first time Monday. All day, my teacher was bugging the chit out of me trying to buy it. $200? Hell naw! Ive got about $1,000 wrapped up in it already! I told him I wouldnt take $2,000 for it!

The guys in the diesel tech class wanted to try to hand crank start it, but I left the hand crank at home in a pile of parts. When I got home, I was just piddlin around with it... Ya know... just trying to remind myself how hard it is to turn that sucker. I turned it 1/4 of the way and VROOOM!!! Scared the chit out of me! Never started with the hand crank before, and it starting like that totally caught me off guard!

yea watch your arm and wrist...it will hurt you. They are made to do this, if even just once in awhile. I started an old 67 of mine once with the crank, it does suprise you how easy they start. You realize there is no hand cranking on the 64 with a PTO right??

Impressed?? Come on out to JH Billie and I will impresse you more with these old P-trolls. The old ones, pre-66 have a hand pump on the fuel pump, so you can prime it if you run it out of fuel. The stock tool kit has most all the tools needed for field repairs. These trucks were made to not leave you stranded in the bush.
