There is a guy in New Mexico who has 6 Patrols. One is a 1973 LG60 from Panama, one of very few in the USA. The other 5 are parts trucks and he has been parting them for years, not sure how many years as he told me 15 one time and 25 another. The guy is nice enough but is very stern and well he seems grumpy all the time. Anyways I got word from another Patroler he was going to get rid of it all for $1000. That includes the LG60 which is a good truck and can be fixed up. The other 5 are missing mad parts but there is several rebuildable motors, two good tops, several good workable tubs, few good fenders, good hoods, heaters, rear doors, grills and lot's of little parts.

He is a picture of the 5 parts trucks.

I called the guy about a week ago as soon as I got wind of this $1000 deal for 6 Patrols. The guy who told me is after a top for his 69. I talked to the old guy with all the Patrols and he said we should have a deal. Talked about some of the details and I was really after the LG60, a good tub, some other body parts and things like heaters. I knew no way I could haul all 6 home and he was set on the package deal. So I call somebody I know who may want to do a split on the trucks and could get it together to pick them up. They are pretty interested. So I email the guy in N.M. asking a few questions and requesting some pictures he said he would send me. He promised pics over the weekend. So come today I am chatting with my buddy here in the shop. I had made the decision I couldn't do the LG60 really just because I have to many trucks now with 7 Patrols and several projects going on. So I had talked my buddy into the LG60 which he was excited about and ready to buy and start work on here in my shop. Had worked it out so I would toss in $200 and he would spring $300 or more and the other party would take the rest for about $500. Had not heard from the NM guy and so I called him tonight. He was his usual gruff self. Turns out he is changing his mind on it all, typical. A friend of his wants the LG60 now and he says there nothing else worth saving. He plans to pretty much junk them all and crush what you see. I didn't mention to him I saw pics and see parts I want as the pics were sent to me by the guy after a top. So I let him BS me with the story of no good body parts and nothing worth the drive to NM.

So that is it...deal is off, trucks are history. I get the feeling he is getting more than $1000 the way he is doing this. LG60 may be getting him near that much or more by it's self. A top is an easy $100 and he told me he has a tranny sold tomorrow for $150. Really I don't care that much about any of that. I also don't care he back out of our deal and is doing something else. What I do care about is that there are good parts there I and others could use in resttorations and the guy is going to crush it all. There is good dash body pieces and I know a guy in Florida with a 69 ragtop who has a rotted dash in 3 pieces. He sure could use one of the 5 restorable ones in NM. I could use a good tub for a resto I am doing.

Oh well...I guess 5 dead Patrols are about to be history for good. Frown This is also only one of about 6 guys in the USA who have so many Patrols that they part. So it will be the end of another parts source for Patrolers in the USA. Roll Eyes

Just thought I would share the death of a Patrol graveyard.....

his parts his perogative but it was real lame to make you a deal and then back out.
A guy i work with sold me his 1943 Jeep on a handshake for 500$. I told him just get me a title. It took him over 2 months to get a title and i started to wonder if a title even existed. I also heard him mention out loud that a couple of other people were interested in this jeep.
Short of it is he sold me the Jeep and didn't back out. He is an honorable guy. This thing is straight, not rusty but missing the original engine trans and tcase and has a buick V6 unknown trans and dana 20 tcase. but it'll make for a cool resto i'm sure.

Steel prices are high.
He is probably getting more than that for the scrap steel. It's probably why he is crushing them they made him a deal. If you made a counter offer higher than they were giving him for the steel I think he would concider it just my 2 cents. I think this guy in it for the money on these patrols and not caring about the vehicles themselves like true collectors do. It's a shame.

Personally i can't imagine why he would crush the parts vs. sell them. I can't see him getting more for the steel.
He says in the post the parts are no good so don't bother driving all that way. That could be but if he's a real nissan lover why would he keep all this stuff from hungry patrol lovers?

Show up with a trailer and the ability to haul them off and he'd probably reconsider.

by his own owrds he says they are not worth saving....nothing to save.

He has parted them for a long time and sold a lot of their parts. I think he feels he is down to the unpartable stuff now and stuff nobody wants/needs. I also think he is getting more $$$ wise than by selling to me and my people for $1000. Ok fine but don't crush them is how I feel. You can see in the one crappy picture there is enough there to build at least one or two Patrols. If you go with domestic running gear there is damn near 3-4 truck that could be built from those 5 Patrols.

I don't know if he is a Nissan guy or not, don't think he has been driving around in a Patrol in a long arse time if ever. The 73 LG60 he has was given to him by some Japanese guy in his area who moved. It is pretty valueable and he knows it.

I had planned to show up with a trailer, sawzall, compressor, generator, cut off tool, impacts and a tent. I had planned to strip them pretty fast if not only for myself but so the other going in on it could cart the stuff home easier. Those trucks don't have axles or wheels so be kinda hard to move them without a flat bed tow truck. If you are good with the ttols I mentioned in 4-5 hours you could have those trucks broken down pretty much all the way to the frame.

here is more pictures...

You can see, especially if you save the pics and zoom in, that there is some solid parts there. Some is rotten and not worth saving unless you are highly motivated but still I could easily build a few trucks from his junk pile. It is hard to come by non-rotten tubs and rebuildable motors in parts trucks. I know it is his stuff and he can do whatever with them. Just fine with me...and also just fine he bailed out on our deal. Yet, it is a real shame there are people hacking up good Patrols to make a rock crawler out of it when these kind of trucks are perfect canidates for that. It is not like I am loosing any sleep over it but it really is a shame considering this is 5 Patrols out of 2616 ever sold in the USA.

You also have top understand where I am coming from....buying a dead 64 soft top truck and fully reconstructing it's rotten body. Just on the tub alone we have 8+ patched spots. This 64 s/t when I am done wil be super nice and worth a lot. None of these 5 Patrols are in much worse shape than the 64 ragtop was when I got it. Some look better....

Somebody in the South West, AZ, TX, NM, CO...should show up and score enough to build at least one buggy or whatever out of what he plans to crush. I don't blame the guy, he wants them out of his yard but I get enough people asking me about cheap trucks and parts that it is a bummer to see them tossed out. The guy could also sell most of what is left if he was motivated. Good heaters, good emblems, good fenders, good hoods, good hindges and so forth will all sell on ebay if you try.

Think a Kenworth W900 pulling a 53' trailer might convince him?

You couldn't get a tractor in where this guy lives. I do agree though, there is a lot left to save.

Okay, how close could a tractor get? Then use a flatbed tow truck to get them from the yard to the trailer...

Or, tow them to some storage area until arrangements can be made to get them?

You know as well as I do Leslie anything is doable. Just takes motivation. Jerry has been to Jim's though and he told me it is about a half mile or more to the main road which is likely as close as you will get with a tractor/trailer. Jim has a soft top tub and the frame to go with it and what is left of the truck. He also has lot's more stuff like stock 16" rims. But Jim is set on crushing it all or something like that. Perhaps flooding him with calls will change his mind? I know he doesn't check or respond to emails much if at all. I did send one guy to him today who is close and wants one of the trucks to build a buggy out of.

I am doing what I can to save them by making people aware they are there for the taking. But buying them myself failed....
