Ok guys,
The main problem which seemed to cause death to most of my wiring and my battery was the altinator. It was a remaned mitubishi which has no part number and I have no idea what car it came from. My Patrol was converted over from a generator before I got it. So does anyone know what type of altinator will bolt up to my brakets? Any part number or vehicle make from which it might come from would be huge. bummer Jason
This is exactly why I have not been driving my 66. The generator is going down and I am afraid it will happen to me!! There was an optional alternator in 69 but is still is low amp (30amp) meaning crappy for lights and so on. I can get you the model and part numbers later today. Maybe an alternator is available from Nissan, mine been B/O for 3 months but you should probily just look into finding a larger unit that will fit or get a custom braket made. |

Yes there was an optional Alternator. It was a Mitsubishi, before 68-69 it was only put on the Police version of the Patrol the P60 model....heh kinda funny. Anyways, here is the old part number...
23100-44021 Ass'y Alternator 12V-500W Dunno if the number come up at Nissan...try NAP.com using wild search like 231%-44% and that will bring up all parts with these first few numbers. Like I said I would just get a better newer Alt adapted to your Patrol, especially if you are rewiring it any ways. |

Fudd,
Thanks for the info. I spoke to a rebuild guy here in town and I will be adapting an internally regulated 90 amp altinator from a GM model years 77-84. This will be helpful once I bolt on my 2 100 watt spot lights. Jason 69' Patrol 3 speed, I-6 Custom Safari Top Custom 3" Lift 32" X 9.50 Super Swampers Superlift Shocks |

On option would be an aftermarket "one wire" 90A gm alternators, same amount of work to install, but when it comes time to wire it, it's just ONE WIRE from the alternator to the battery terminal (or distribution block, however you want to wire it)

Ok here is the deal.
I'm getting a 7121-100 which originally is a 70 amp unit from GM late 70's to 1984. This guy built the unit for me that should push 100-110 amps. This unit has 2 wires, one the output (on the back of the altinator that goes back to the battery) the other wire I have a few questions about. This other wire needs to be "resisted ignition voltage" can any of you engineering guys help me with the meaning of this? That wire basically needs a +12v signal that occurs when the engine is running. You should be able to use the +12v off the coil, since its active whenever the engine is running.
I ran into the same with my alternator on the Patrol and had to do this. I wired mine to the +12v side of the coil and it works fine. BEEFYJames Fabrication - Custom Fabricated for Use and Abuse Nissan Terrano .. "Take a grip of Steering!" |
