Do eny of you guys have a book out there that says the recommended spark plug for a Patrol? I'm at work and I wanted to call ahead to the Parts store to pick some up? I currently have some Autolites in there from when I bought it. I believe that originally they were NGK. Do any of you know which ones specificly? The gap would be helpful too.

The reason I'm replacing them is that the plug ends were black. There did not seem to be visible chunks of carbon, but perhaps they could be too black to provide a sufficent spark.
I checked my coil yesterday and it seemed good. I replaced the condensor just to be sure. The points look in good condition, cap, rotor and wires are new.

I think my carb (rochester) is still running rich, I would like to hear from someeone with this grubby GM carb that has been able to dial it in.

Black plugs definitely indicate a rich condition. guess all you can do is fiddle with the mixture screw until your plugs are a light brown color

If I had set my float too high, will that cause my carb to run too rich? Can you think of way that I can best clean up the plugs?

Yes, that might be a cause of you running rich.

As for cleaning the plugs, a small wire brush might work well...like the kind you clean battery terminals with. A toothbrush with some carb cleaner might also work.

A wirebrush in a drill works great. You just need to knock the crud off (until its shiny) and then regap it. They will work great after that. Spark plugs can be cleaned and reused many times. As long as the electrode isnt damaged, plugs can be cleaned and reused.

Thanks guys, I will try to clean the plugs that I have now to see if that helps.

Greg, it was good chatting with you. I hope that we can find you an engine so that we can get your Patrol back touring the NorthEast. You might be our only Patrol Representitive in 3 states.
