Hi all, some of you might know me from other Nissan boards. I've always been interested in owning a Patrol, but I've never been able to locate a decent running rig up here in Oregon. I've only come across two, but they were both Ford powered, and hacked up a bit. Is it possible for a part time college student like me to find a decent running Patrol for $2k or less? I know it's a stretch, but I know some of you have a lot more resources at hand. Let me know, thanks in advance.

Hey Hammer Man...welcome to the board! Where in Oregon are you?? I grew up in Eugene...I am so Oregonian I got webbed toes! Spent about 24 years in good ole Eugene....I also know Oregon very well.

When I was a teenager many years ago I bought my first Patrol up near Albany. It was a 67, mostly stock but a bit beat and cut on. It wheeled like nothing I had ever seen though, even my 60 series TLC. Been in love with Patrols and a P-troll freak since. I come back to Oregon every X-mas. Last year I went down to Grants Pass area and scored a PTO winch plus all I could carry from a guy, he had a 63 ragtop and a rolled 67. Neither ran and he was parting them out but the 63 rag top was fairly unmolested, the rear tub was very clean....but the engine had been tossed. This guy found the ragtop 63, a factory yellow one which is very very rare. He found it up in the hills where it had been buried under blackberry bushes for many many years. Unfortunately the engine had been sitting about 30 feet away. The guy who bought the property had no idea he had a Patrol in the bushes so he tossed the engine Once they started cleaning up the property they found the 63 Patrol and then this guy I met bought it. The guy also knew where 2 other Patrols were, one he said ran and was clean. Any ways, the point of the story is you can find them in Oregon. Oregon got many many Patrols from the very early days....it just takes some determination and time and you can find one for $2k or less. My old 67 I paid $750 and I drove it home.

First thing I can tell you as a possable Patrol owner is, be ready for a serious chore with parts. Nissan does not support this rig at all in the USA and at least 60% of stuff is not available anymore. You can not rebuild the tranny, transfer, engine or diffs using Nissan bought parts. Yet, you can rebuild them none the less it just takes a lot of determination and time.

Now that I said all that here is the scope on locating a Patrol. First, if you are willing to transport or go get one out of state it is no problem and I can locate you one right now. Matter of fact there was just 2 for sale on ebay and both were $1500, a great deal. I assume this not an option though. So, you need to develope a nose for smelling out Patrols. You would be suprised, these trucks hide but can be found very close to home if you know how and where to look. I recently found a super clean 66 just sitting in a field not 100 miles from me. I been by it many times but never saw it. Get on the NPCA site and look through Patrols For Sale section. Check TruckTrader online often, buy a TruckTrader every week (this how I found my first one) and alway keep your eyes out for a Patrol. Get your $2k together and keep it handy for when you locate one, then you can get it right away.

I do know where a 69 Patrol is in Oregon with a PTO winch. A really old guy owns it but he is very nice. He will tell you stories about how he and his brothers used to race them back in the 60's. He used to have 4 on his property but a few years back I told a guy out there where they were and he went and got all but the 69. So the guy has a 69 that I think runs. It is moldy as is usual in rainy Oregon. I went and saw it last X-mas and it still at his house. If you got cash and are serious I could tell you where it is located and at the least you could go talk to the guy and check out his Patrol. Interested...??

Thanks for the reply!! I live just outside of Portland, are you familiar with Hillsboro? If the old guy's truck runs, and isnt all rusty I'd be interested. Let me know I need a hardcore trail rig to replace my Hardbody.

One quick question though, will a HB233 make a good rear axle swap?

You should be able to find one in P-town...that is where my 67 ended up. No idea on the HB233 but lot's of people doing an FJ40 swap. IMO the best is an H260 with a locker that drops right in, this also a stock Patrol rear end found on heavy duty models. A buddy in Oz who works at ARB Australia just took his H260 to work to have the engineers make him an air locker for it!! Oh yea baby, even better than Detroit locker! Yet you will not find an H260 in the USA, not untill I start to import them

The 69 is just south of Eugene, hiden in the woods. It has some rust, any truck with scratches in Oregon does. Yet it has no rot that I have seen. Just looks like he has not washed it in 20 years! I think it runs as it was his daily driver for many years. It has a very rare PTO and winch like I say, a very tuff unit. It also has some old man add ons but remains stock. Would he sell it?? No idea as I never asked, always figured he wouldn't as he likes patrols a lot and this his last one. Yet, he is getting real old and when he passes on what will happen to his Patrol!? Show up with cash and it may go home with you, or it may not but you could go back once a year untill he dies or sells it to you I won't tell you where it is if you plan to do a full mod project. Why? Well this one is original and deserves to be restore and wheeled. I had my eye on it for over 10 years. If you plan to mod up the rig then we can find you a much better one for just a few hundred bucks with no engine ready to be reborn as whatever you want. Sorry but I am against killing a good old stock Patrol....

Welcome! If you do find a Patrol, and want to go with the FJ-40 axle swap, Ive just finished doing it. Its supposed to be able to handle up to 36" tires with no real big problems, plus you can get a locker and parts for it!

The H233B is an axle with a centered rear diff. The Patrols have offset rear diffs just like 1st Gen Mitsubishi Monteros(AKA: Dodge Raiders), older Toyota Landcruisers, and Suzuki Samuri's.

Im with Fudd though, keep the original ones stock for restoration. Im sure you can find a rusty one... Ask guys at the parts stores. This is how I found another one in my area that Im working on buying...
