this is very rare for Wyoming but they are around. This one was very deceiving, driving on it was like driving on a sponge. Once the tires cut in it was all over and we sank very fast. Even after we got stuck and worked with the winch the rig sank more, it was nearly to the floor boards by the time we got the PTO set up, the floor is 28" off the ground! As yo0u can see no trees around so we winched off the base of a large bush, had to set the cable like a choke to get it to grab. Once the winch pulled I came right out and just let it idle on up out of the deep ruts. This stuff is really nasty and stinks like hell! Mad

A layer of grass and moss or peat 12" thick sitting on top of who knows how deep mud and water...and the worst smell ever! The cows love it though Roll Eyes

Rock on! smiley4 Thats some nasty stuff!

You havent really wheeled until youve ran over an old underground sewer main. My friend did this. One minute he was 2-wheelin along, the next minute he was in 4LO with all wheels slinging sh*tty mud!

It took 2 Z71 Chevies, a Dodge Ram 4x4 dually, a John Deere 4010 and an old Massey-Furguson to get him out. Damage? Rear crossmember bent into a V, frame above rear axle bowed in. Luckily, they bent just right, and it didnt effect the way the truck rides. He got VERY lucky there!

Next time I see him, I will crawl under his truck and take pics of the damage.

LOL! I've found a couple of those with my dad up west of Meeteetse, WY. Sucks you right in to the axles. Typically there's no rocks or trees around either. They're kept wet by underground spring runs.

Tread lightly, my friend Smile

If it werent for the grass that is pulled up by the tires, it wouldnt be so hard to get it off the truck. That grass really doesnt help ya in cleaning...

well...grass, mud, peat and water is one big messy situation. You are right DR not a single tree or rock...a ground anchor is needed in my bag of tricks for sure.

Tread lightly...it doesn't look like it I am sure in a lot of my pics. Yet, all the places I wheel are either open to the public (BLM land) or private land that the ranchers don't mind you playing on. All the areas are used as open range and IMHO the cattle do way more damage than peeps like me. The bog for example is heavily trampled by cattle...I was not leaving hardly any tracks until we got stuck. Unfortunately sometimes it happens and well I do my best to tread lightly. trust me though, where I live 90% of all the land is off limits to 4wheeling and where I play is used by ranchers, cowboys, hunters and good ole boys. One intresting thing about my Pinz is that with it all locked and in low the thing hardly leaves tracks at all, even in soft stuff or when doing some serious stuff. That is what lockers does for ya' I guess. Tread lightly is one reason I like to wheel in the rivers as you do not leave hardly any tracks.

Since I am now thinking about it and typing...my local 4 wheel drive comunnity is nearly non-existant. I would like to get more trails found and figured out locally, get some sort of a local club going as there is nothing here for off roaders. What is the best way to go about this, in a manner that will not upset all the hippiecrits!? Should I contact the forest service to find out where the trails are? What is a good way to get the locals intrested, organize runs and events? Without this I fear that in the future places I enjoy may get closed...we need a organized 4wheeling community locally but I am unsure how to do it....

Start a 4WD club, and make a good name for it. BFE 4Wheelers or something. Then post flyers with your name, number, e-mail address, and stuff at the hot rod shops, parts stores, oil change places, drive-through licor stores, and any other place you think people in 4WD's might frequent. Also, showing up in the high school parking lot about the time kids get out helps, too!

It wont be an overnight thing, but it wont take REAL long.

Fudd, you're absolutely right...cattle do more range damage in Wyoming than anything...even the oilfields. The fact the USFS lets ranchers run cattle in the mountains has always bugged me.

As for starting a club, that's an excellent idea. Find someone who has done it. A true, incorporated club requires officers and insurance....or you could do it like we do and stay officially unincorporated. Either way, it's all about exposure. Leave flyers on trucks.

Having a website really helps. If you start a club, we could get a forum up on this board to help you get started....Would provide a good central place for you to plan runs and to get people involved.

It's a lot of work getting a club off the ground, but you have exactly the right purposes for having one in mind. Tree huggers have been closing down established trails in Wyoming and elsewhere as long as I can remember. So many great trails my Dad and I used to wheel on are now barricaded and reclaimed thanks to tree huggers that don't even live within 1000 miles of the area.

LOL...yea that is why I can't find anyone to wheel with. They see the Pinz and say "man, you are crazy just for owning that thing!" My roomie owns a 2002 Jeep that is modded but I can't pay him to wheel with me. Funny thing is...the Pinz out does anything around here, no mogs locally, yet it is just as fun to wheel my Patrols. They are different but I still grin ear to ear driving them. I am so into them because it goes back to when I got my first one when I was a teen. The lack of support from Nissan, the lack of knowlege about them and their rarity is why I am starting RMP&O. Without support the true 60 series Nissan Patrol will fade away...

Funny thing about the Pinz, we do not take pics of it a lot wheeling because we are to busy having fun and holding on. It has a way of making you forget about anything except the terrain ahead. I have done some major tough stuff in it recently like drive over logs 3ft high and boulders the same size. I took a friend out in it a week ago as he been wanting to go for a ride....he had no idea where I was taking him. He was quiet the whole time except when he was saying "you gonna drive up/over/through that!? are you kidding me, we just drove over that!? Dude, you are %$#@*& crazy!" I have not heard from him since we went wheeling...most people it does this to, chases em away or freaks them out I guess.

Jon...thanks for the ideas, sounds like I should just BUST A MOVE! I doubt the high school a good place for me as I am nearly 31 years old...lol, hate to get hassled for stalking! A local club is needed badly here so will see what I can do in the coming months. Keep the ideas coming as I dig them and it all helps Wink

Talk to one of the kids and find out where everybody goes 4-wheelin at lunch. Everybody around here, no matter what school, has a 4-wheelin place to go to at lunch. Find the place, find out when they get out for lunch and BE THERE!

I remember a month back when my 4-wheelin buddy was waiting next to my truck(my 4x2 S-10) for me to get out of high school. By the time I got to his truck, he had to take 2-trips around town just to give all the kids that wanted rides a taste of 4-wheelin. It was great, and the kids still ask when he will be there next time...

DR...thanks a bunch man for the advice and offer. If I get it going I will probaly take you up on the offer. The flyers on trucks sounds like a great idea too! That is one thing I see a lot of is cool trucks here...I would even wheel with the H2's and Rovers if they can keep up. Wink Do you think any of those trails from your youth could be reopened? The cows do not bother me so much as the land is vast and open...what good is some sage and grass anyways, they do not hurt it to much. I don't like seeing them in national forest or the parks but otherwise the ranchers have as much right as I do....even if they do more damage. The tree huggers do piss me off and trust me being from Oregon have seen all types. There are some trails I have heard of north of Cody I think in Montana, close to the bordwer. Have you been up there much? Heard these trails rock big time and are long...big trucks don't fit on them is also what I heard. I been through Cody once and looks like there is some awesome places to wheel up there....

Any ways, enuff typing for now....got to get some work doen Wink

There is lots of stuff north of Cody. I'm from Meeteetse and know the area there really well. No chance on trails closed 15-20 years now being reopened. Once they're gone, they're gone.

Cody is an incredible place. Thats one of the places were thinking about moving to in about 2 years.

However it is nice having the rubicon an hour and a half away.

However the next time you take the PINZ out you have to get some pic's. I have only seen one in action. We just have a bunch of mogs around here no PINZ's
