Have any of you heard of this? My Patrol seems to be running very well, but when I'm driving up hill it seems to cut out. But then it recovers and runs normal. It comes close to stalling by dropping from 2200rpms to about 700 rpms. If I just put the gas to the floor on the hill it will do this cutting out process every few seconds. Could this be a clogged fuel jet or vent line in the carb? Bad fuel pump? Any sugestions?

Thanks

sounds to me like a low float level. this is a problem with all carbs though, that if you tilt it too far, ti will simply stop delivering fuel.

Yeah, I was going up a hill but only on the street. It was steep but not like when I'm off roading. Also, I was not sure how to set the float bowl because my Nissan Patrol has a chevy rochester carb on it. If the float level is too low will the carb have other side effects like running rich or lean? Hesitation or lack of power, anything?

Really about all you'd nottice is a stumble/miss on acceleration, and then it'll wanna stall anytime the nose of the truck is up. I can look up how to change the float level (or possibly know, depending which carb it is). Is it a 2bbl rochester, or a 4bbl?

Yes Jonx4x4 is right, it is a 1 bbl. But the truck does not stall at high rpms. However the truck will not usually climb above 3,500 rpms. I have noticed that the Patrol will stall when I come to a stop light and make a rapid stop. Any thoughts?

dude...my p-troll was doing the same kind of things last winter when I rebuilt the carb. I could not figure it out so redoing entire fuel system, i had lots of rust in tank, lines and filter. In a week it will be back together and on the road so maybe I can offer you more info....I set the float as for a 283 if I remember right.

Sounds good Fudd. I hope your Patrol is good to go now. Keep me posted if your setting of 283 worked. Is that Millimeters?
