I hate being right. Wink
I dropped the oilpan today and found this:

You can see the con rod, piston pin and I guess pieces of the piston. I'm not sure what that gasket-looking thing by the piston end of the rod is. Here's the crankshaft:

Wow.. cool paperweight I guess. Smile Unless there are cracks or holes in the block, the motor could mabye be saved, but I bet the parts would be hard to get ahold of.. Probably best to just look for another bottom end.

Datz - yeah, I'll have to keep my eyes out for options. At least I finally have a better idea of what I'm dealing with.

Jason - thanks, i'd be interested to hear about it.

DR - It's kinda scored up and chipped but possibly. God knows what it did to the cyl wall. I'm going to pull off the valve cover for a looksee also.

Here is the word. The whole truck cost $500. The clutch went and the owner does not want to fix it. He wont let me just part it out so we would have to but the truck and then part the thing out. The hard top is crap so there is not much I'm interested in other than little stuff. THe owner said that the engine runs well and it should start right up. I could get about $200 dollars worth of stuff and I might be able to pull the enigne if you looked into freight charges for an engine.

Sounds like we should come up with a plan! I'm sure there would be other parts I'm interested in as well and then maybe we could recoup some costs by parting it out. I am very interested. (What year is it?) How much would you need from me to get the thing in your possession? Anyone have suggestions as to freight companies?

It is a 67. I could probably by the truck in a month with a verbal commitment from you that you will indeed buy the engine or other parts. I mostly just want little things like speedo gauge, wiper motor as backup, axles, used brake parts. The grubby part is that the doors were in awesome shape but the peckerwood that owned it used a sawsall to make half doors. If you would like you could give me a call this weekend to talk details or possibilities. 928-523-4774. I can then call you back on my cell (free minutes).

Sounds good. I'll make a parts list Wink
I'll call you this weekend, when's a good time? I'm going wheeling during the day Sunday so won't be here during the day. Or you can call me at 802.365.7212 if you'd like. I work from home so I'm usually here during the day.

FYI....if no holes in your block it can be saved. A complete rebuild kit for the engine can be bought from Nissan Forklift dealers for under $1000. I say rebuild the stock engine as your trucks value will remain higher.....yet, in the meantime you could get a second one in there like from Jason's parts rig and well.....Just run it soooo hard, run the hell out of it Wink while you rebuild the org one. Just an idea......

Well, since I did not get the one on ebay, I will continue to work those other guys. What type of things are you looking for Fudd. I'll be sure to look closely at the Parts Patrol for them. About buying parts, all I want to do is break even on the purchase of the Parts rig. If I am going to have to pull the engine for Dogwater I will need to rent an engine hoist but that is about it. The more people we have in the mix the cheaper the individaul parts will be.

Well...I need good hood bumper rubber for folded windshield. Just the block, I can attach them in a none stock manner. Five 16" stock pre-66 rims, rear reflectors found on 67 or older rigs (diffrent than the 69 reflectors), wiper motors, hand crank, tool kit, rear nissan patrol black plate embalm (sticker on 69's), clean front bumper, clean non-cracked old steering wheel, solid starter and generator, passanger side step, skid plates (oild pan and tranny, clean)....and maybe few other small things I can't think of...heh. Um....should be able to at least break even on a parts rig and thus get your parts for free...that is if you get it cheap! I would buy some of these things off you or trade... Wink

Great, I'll keep you posted. The hunt here in AZ for Parts is on in full force.

By the way anyone interested in a sweet 67 Patrol for about 3K? Tranny with new syncros, new clutch, and rebuilt engine all about one year ago? It needs a paint job but there is now body damage. It has been in the same family since it was new?
