I don't know if anyone else from the board attended the All Datsun Meet at Shasta this year, but what a great event you missed if you didn't. This was my first year to attend and I wouldn't have missed it for anything. The big surprise this year - 2 Patrols attended! People that have been attending for 10 years+ have never seen a Patrol at Shasta, and this year they had 2!

I've got some pics:

Togo and Old Blue

Old Blue is a '66 Patrol from White City, OR. Notice the Cadillac hood emblem. He also has Cadillac Escalade 17" wheels and tires, as well as Cadillac center caps on the front hubs screwed to the release lever. Old Blue is mostly original, with tool kit. That paint is original - just took some major buffing.

I had a special request from jmcallis for pictures of the oldest truck at the show. I assume he meant pick-up. This is a '67 from the show. I didn't get the owner's name, but maybe someone on the board knows the truck.

I wanted to go to this with my 510 but couldn't. Seems that there are an increasing number of trucks. Here is a pic of a 510 wagon 4x4 (Don't think this is the one with a L6 engine)

Here are links to other pics of Shasta:

And a little bit of history for Shasta(From Randy York):
Mount Shasta has a long history of downhill and cross-country skiing. In the 1930's, Snowman's Hill, located off Highway 89, was a popular place for snow sports. There was a ski jump for professional and novice alike. A ski area known as the Mount Shasta Ski Bowl was built and opened for business in 1958. It was located on National Forest land at the end of the Everitt Memorial Highway, at 8,000 feet elevation. Many locals, as well as visitors, enjoyed the deep snow and high altitude. Then in October 1971, the lodge was destroyed by fire. A new lodge was built in only 51 days and opened on schedule for more skiing. In 1978, during a winter storm there was an avalanche, which wiped out the upper ski lifts. After much controversy, the old Ski Bowl was not rebuilt.
In 1985, a new ski area located on private land opened. The Mount Shasta Board and Ski Park features a modern day lodge, state of the art lifts, snowmaking capabilities and a great view! The Ski Park continues to expand, it now has 3 chair lifts and a snowboarding terrain park.

Hmm, wonder if there are any trails at Shasta ?

Enjoy the ride,
Ben

Great pics on the links! Thanks for that. I remember most of those cars. Great fun - I'll certainly go again next year.

Not so many trucks really. Probably only about 6 total. But, after all it is an 'All Datsun' meet, right? There were also Sylvia's and a Sunny and a variety of other non-510's - and obviously Zs and Roadsters.

The last time I went was in 2002 and there was only about 2 trucks. So, they are increasing slowly and you are correct, it's an All Datsun Meet, so maybe next year there will be even more trucks. Wink

Enjoy the ride,
Ben

That is awesome! I'm looking for one of those for daily commuter. I love it. The 4x4 510 wagon is a bit too funny. I hope that guy comes to the AZ run! Big Grin

The metallic blue 67' 520 pickup is now mine. I bought it shortly after the show. Trailered it from Redding CA to Phoenix AZ to get it home. Lately I've been taking it to car shows on weekends. You can see a few more pics at: http://members.cox.net/datsun/index.htm

Wow, good job Silverghost! I love that little truck. What a great commuter. You just don't see too many of those anymore. I know that you will have fun with it.

that 67 reminds me of my first pickup...I had a 1970 520, and the only thing wrong with the body was a dent in the passenger door. I miss that little truck...and the screaming 98hp at 5900 RPMs

You definately got a sweet truck there. Having seen it up close and in person I can attest to that. Whoever restored it took a lot of care doing so.

Also kudos to you for taking it to car shows. Car shows are great fun, and we get to educate people about these wonderful little cars. I just had the heuvos to take my Patrol to a major classic car show - Route 66 Rendezvous in San Bernardino. The Patrol was accepted very well because of it's condition, but some were disappointed when they yelled 'Rev it up!'. But hey, after a dozen '57 Chevy Bel Airs they all start looking the same. The Patrol was certainly unique.

If you are a huge old Datsun truck fan, and are interested in collecting 'stuff': in going through my grandmother's apartment after she passed away I came across a 1963 issue of 'Desert Magazine of the Southewest'. It was based in the Palm Springs area. There is an ad in it fot a '63 Datsun truck, with picture - also an ad for the Honda 'Trail 55'. It's pretty cool stuff. I'd let it go for $20 to anyone that's interested.
