Well with my new job, the wife has suggested that I keep the Patrol! That was even without any input from me. (I was shocked- almost fell out of my chair Big Grin Between you all and I, I was shocked since she has never really seen the magic of the PAT! The only time she has eer riden in it was at Broken Arrow trail Sedona, AZ (were the Pink Jeep tours go) her and her college roomy screamed so loudly that I thought that I had permanent hearing damage.

So the bottom line is that it just got much more expensive on the market. I have a strong lead on solving my grubby rochester carb issues and with a fresh valve rebuild I image the old Pat will really scoot.

I'm even looking into new paint and a rhino liner for the under belly and interior! I'm still trying to get it done for AZ run 5. If so, I know that I'll be the only REAL power machince there! (that might have been a test) Well maybe the only classic machine, anyway... I'm still working on the minimums for the run.

God, I'm trying. The "requirements" for the AZ run are going to be hard to get all done in time but I'll give it an offical GO FOR IT!

That is the main reason I need to get the valves done and stuff like that. I'll be grubbed out if the Pat dies on the trip.

The list of stuff I still need to work on are:
- spare steering parts (new or used) they are hard to come by at Autozone Smile

- full size spare TSL Super Swamper 32" x 9.50

- ear plugs for my loud exhaust (more likely I'll just swap the glass pack for a muffler

- rear mounting point. I might need to get a rear bumper welded up so I can be sure. (my current one is ugly and to long and low.)

- Second jerry gas can (10 mpg runs out fast, even with a 20 gallon tank).

- Maybe new seats - that is a lot of hours in the patrol seats with a few springs hitting me in the butt.

- I will get my e-brake pads redone so it'll have a lot of holding power

- give a run though on my whole brakes. They are better, but not quite where I would like them. Could be the master cylinder (no fluid leaks but needs a few pumps when unused for a while.

- Big cooler hold down strap for beverage and good food! Chug

Hey Ian, could you come down for the AZ run and just ride along if you can't bring one of your machinces? You could ride with me or any others that have some space I imagine. The whole Swanky crew is crazy but a bunch of great folks.

I've got an extra muffler you can have but I'm in San Diego. It's off an 03 Mustang GT and is practically new. Dont know if you remember my write up or not but I've got the other half on my HB...works and sounds great.

We've got several mufflers laying around in the backyard if you want something for the time being.

Also, Checkers has a few mufflers in their performance section that are very inexpensive. I hve one on the 510 and it isnt too loud.. but I'm also running a catalytic on the 510 too. You can get a muffler for less than $20 new.

The list of stuff I still need to work on are:

I got you covered here. plenty of old tie rods and drag links laying around my shop. Good and straight ones too.

- full size spare TSL Super Swamper 32" x 9.50

keep an eye on ebay....

- ear plugs for my loud exhaust (more likely I'll just swap the glass pack for a muffler

ear plugs run about .50 cents a pair. or like they said get a muffler.

- rear mounting point. I might need to get a rear bumper welded up so I can be sure. (my current one is ugly and to long and low.)

angle grinder, cut off tool and about 1 hour you will have the old home made junk off of there. Stock rear bumper is welded to the frame so it is always under the junk, sometimes you just have to cut alot off to find it! Stock bumper is strong and way low profile. Center of bumper is stock holes for mounting tow point. Go to a military surplus store. Pintle hitches up to around 12,000lbs match right up with the bolt pattern. Seems stock hitch bolt pattern on a P-troll is same used for military trucks. Price of pintle at military store = $30

- Second jerry gas can (10 mpg runs out fast, even with a 20 gallon tank).

grab this while you re at the mil store too. Cheap there but will be steel. If you need plastic they may have that but unlikely. Last time I bought one a plastic 5gal can was about $12

- Maybe new seats - that is a lot of hours in the patrol seats with a few springs hitting me in the butt.

drop on into Junkyards and get seats from an early 90's Hyundai Excell. Last ones I got ran me about $100 for a set of non-stained and non-ripped seats. They fit real well and are fairly easy to adapt to the Patrol is you remove the mounting stuff from them.

- I will get my e-brake pads redone so it'll have a lot of holding power

Jerry posted where, $40 in Texas

- give a run though on my whole brakes. They are better, but not quite where I would like them. Could be the master cylinder (no fluid leaks but needs a few pumps when unused for a while.

Try power bleed and changing all the fluid out. Then if all cylnders are good and so are all lines check adjustment. If it is all good tear into that mc or replace it.

- Big cooler hold down strap for beverage and good food!

under $40 for cooler and straps. Wink

Hey Ian, could you come down for the AZ run and just ride along if you can't bring one of your machinces?

I dunno, maybe. Would like to come...prob is always that I am flat broke that time of year. And AZ is a long road trip which requires me to have cash. This year doesn't look good because I have to go to Long Beach to pick up the Ute. Then I have to go to Texas and pick up the LG61. Both long road trips hualing. We will see though....maybe I will have the LG61 in time and it will run good enough to drive. Or maybe I will get the MQ going by then and drive it. Roll Eyes

Cool man, I'm trying to get the wife to agree to take a X-mas trip to San Diego so maybe that would work to meet up sometime then. Or shipping can't be too bad either.

Ian, good idea about the Patrol bumper. I thought about that already. I'll just pick up some truck/trailer rear lights at napa for $5 and bolt them to the tub. I have the factory rear silly hook for the Patrol, but I would feel horrible if a tow strap flew off and hit DR's truck when pulling me up some obsticale that only locked trucks can take. Frown

And I will give you a ring about those extra steering parts. I'll try this weekend.

BTW, on your big road trips. If you come through Flagstaff, you are welcome to crash here at my place.

I'll take a ride out the junkyard soon to look for a old little excell. Nice buckets would be cool.

I will just buy a new tire if I can't find one used locally. As it turns out they are pretty cheap about a $120 new.

Yep, John's is a '66 with a full early bronco drivetrain in it. A little TLC will turn that into one badass rig. It's for sale.

I was thinking about buying it, but I decided a
2wd-4wd conversion would be more fun. Strange

Early Bronco as in 302 V8, C6 tranny, Ford 9in rear with lockrite locker and D44 front. Wouldn't take much to make it a killer wheeler.
