hey all,
i was surfing the NPCA site last night and saw a bunch of pics I hadn't seen. Some I have seen but others I had missed. These are of the guys in Columbias Patrols. They have some awesome rigs and some very cool pics of them wheeling their trucks. The red 1980 Patrol is my buddy Hectors who helped me get parts. Several of the rigs including Hectors are SOA, check the yellow one too. The blue 67 is for sale...here is a link. Hectors rig Columbian Patrols BTW, I found out that everything for the Patrol is available down there not just body parts, everything you need to rebuild them from the frame up! hehe...I like them all too. The top light blue one is Hectors brothers and is a 1980 Patrol, that is one of favorite Patrols. the black one is I think a late 80's or early 90's Patrol as I know it is not an MK or MQ which is early 80's. The medium blue one is the 67 for sale. The red one is an LG60 and is Hectors rig. The G means it is MWB and L is simply LHD, greatest thing about Columbia is that all their rigs are LHD unlike Australia. The funny thing is when you are an uncultured American and influenced by stereotypes you are lead to believe that Columbia is a very bad place. From what I have learned it is not at all other than the drug lords. Sure the big cities have bad places but so do all big cities everywhere. I can tell you this...from my dealing with these guys they are some of the nicest guys I have met who own Patrols. Hector did tons of work to help me get parts and he even went as far as to take about 50 photos at a parts shop showing me all body parts...and then he mailed me a price list. Columbians are very nice people. They guy even offered to put me up in his house when i come down, show me around all the shops and introduce me to all his Patrol friends plus take me wheeling! He figured out everything as far as shipping, packaging, money transfer and so on and never asked for a single thing. The guy also loves American muscle cars too and owns a 1970's Dodge Demon in killer shape. Not many Americans would go even half that far just in the name of Patrols! I am truely impressed by how eager they are to help us USA Patrolers. I tell ya what these guys really love Nissans! I think if there is anybody that has a chance to affect the USA Patrol scene it is these Columbian Patrols owners. Here are my fav pics from there albums...

and this picture rocks too! if you notice they are running 34-35" tires with uncut fenders. I do not believe they rub as the fenders are clean and undamaged. Hector has also told me they use stock rigs other than SOA. The diffs are stock without lockers, the drivelines are stock even on the SOA trucks. No probs he sayd and they never break axles...that is why he was confused as to why I want an H260, he says the C216 is no probs for these size tires and the type of wheeling they do. So perhaps all the broke alxes and rear ends we see here is due to rock climbing and driver who lack good 4x4 experience. Any ways great rigs and great group of guys! From someone with 36" tires on a Patrol.. yes, the lack of PS really sucks.

But John's has a little dinky steering wheel too...even less leverage to turn the wheels.

I dig the pics a lot too, got most all of em on my PC and may use some on RMP&O site if it cool with them. I liked the pics so much is the reason I posted em here for you guys to check out.
nope no power steering ever on an old 60 series Patrol. I do believe you can adapt one fairly easy from an MK or MQ but that is with stock front diff and steering. I think I posted about it in the thread "here is the truth". Personally I never thought the steering is hard in a Patrol, yet I have not driven any with bigger than 33" tires. Yet, if moving it has always seemed very light to me. Well, my FJ-40 axle swap is almost done!
As soon as I get to drive it for awhile, I will start on the power steering/hydroboost brake conversion... It will involve using an IH Scout II power steering box, GM Diesel truck or Cadillac hydroboost, and a pump... most likely Saginaw since theyre so easy to use for power steering conversions... This will be maybe a year down the road... Right now all I want to do is drive the friggin' thing!
