Hey Dogwater,

Fudd and I were looking at this engine a few months back. I even think it is the same photo that was posted on ebay then. No doubt that this engine and tranny would kick ass in your Patrol, but maybe Fudd or John might know the specs and weight of the engine. I imagine you would spend at least another $1000 on custom work and parts to make it work in your truck.

Heheh... I'd be curious to know what it's out of. I'm in no position to drop 2 grand on an engine and I wouldn't want to wait until I was. I just wanted to know what it is for future reference. Honestly, I assume it's from a later model and was thinking about the Hardbody (someday) more than the Patrol. I know I'll want to go over to diesel in the HB eventually and do a biodiesel / grease conversion but not anytime soon. It's always interesting for me to see a Nissan diesel. I could also see doing it in the Patrol eventually but for now I just want to replace the stock engine. (Hint hint) Wink

It's a 105 hp SD33 engine, weighs a freakin' ton, and most likely not worth the trouble.
I'm 99% sure that's the same one that has been on Ebay for months now at the same price, originally listed out of Hawaii, then Florida. That shelf and the partial glimpse of the tranny beside it looks identical.

The SD33 was put in the International Scouts here in the US.

Nissan SD33 engines (IH IN-633) - 1976 thru 1979

Nissan SD33T turbocharged engine (IH IN-633-T) - 1980

http://www.binderbulletin.org/faq/4.htm

quote:

IH used one diesel engine in the Scout II. It was availible turbocharged in 1980. The diesel engine is an inline 6-cylinder that displaced 198 cubic inches. Its bore is 3.27 in. and stroke is 3.94 in. The compression ratio is 21 to 1. The standard diesel produced 92hp, the turbocharged version produced 101 hp and 175 lb/ft of torque. These aren't stunning engine numbers, but these diesels are very reliable and get decent mileage.

THE SD33 may weigh a ton, but so does the stock Nissan engine in the patrol. The SD33 could be a kickass replacement to get diesel reliability while retaining a Nissan powertrain. Smile

For 2 grand, one would be better off looking around in some of the Scout websites to buy one that ran well but was just rusted to death. I imagine you could get one for less that $1000 that ran awesome. I know from much personal experience that the Scouts always ran awesome but they suffered from Cancer like no other car on the road. I know that dogwater in VT can back me up on this one.

Nissan used SD33- diesel engine at Patrol. Here in Finland we dont have any, or not more than a couple Patrols with gasoline engines.
SD33 was used from 1976 to 1987 or -88. After that came TD28 and 42 engines. Power output from SD33 was between 105hp to 135(tubocharged). It pulls like nothing from bottom and revs easily over 4000rpm... Though power doesn`t increase after that.
It`s very reliable engine unless you have dripping injectors, then it brokes pistons and heads. The fuel economy is excellent.
