Well the modern distributor is in and running like a champ. Now all I need to tdo if get my carb dialed in the way it should be and I'm in business. Once I hooked up all the wires and got the firing order set it fired like it was brand new. The Patrol has never started that well in it life. We are talking instant start! I have a date with Sam Adams to celebrate! I will try to get photos and comments up tonight or by mid day tomorrow. My only question was exactly what to set the plugs to. I went with .45 since the Z sit seemed to say that was what they went with for the early Z conversions.

Have a great turkey-day!

That's at the outside of what I'd use for gap with an electronic ignition. .40 would probably be a little better. Congrats on making the Z parts work!

AWESOME! Congratulations, man!!

I say you average it! Somewhere between .32 and .45 :P

I say that you post all the pics and the instructions on here and DL or DR add it to the How-To in a new Patrol directory. Well, its your choice where the write-up would be, but it would be a shame for this not to be shared with fellow Patrol owners!

Not meaning to hijack your thread, but I went 4-wheelin again today. I got the Patrol so vertical that my rear step/hitch dug into the ground! That old Rochester did GREAT!!! The stock motorcrap in my old Jeep never even got that vertical without the carb stalling out! If the Jeep had ever got more vertical that horrible departure angle would have prevented going any further, though.

The Rochester performed WAY beyond my expectations!

Theyre very fun to customize. Everything is so simple, its not hard at all to adapt a part from a totally different vehichle!

Yea but you totally reduce the value of your truck. I know your gig Jon and not mocking you but I have had offers from $7k-$12k on my blue 64 and I bought it for $2k just over a year ago, what does that tell you!? It may be sold for $9k...still waiting on the money. These trucks will be worth a lot of money in the coming years, I plan to be apart of that and help make them worth more than a few hundred bucks. My 64 rag top for example, it should be worth an easy $15k when done...that not without hard work and cash though. I have been collecting all the little super hard to find items for it over the last year. I have even found a set of stock safety straps that go on the doors when they off. 40 year old canvas webbing in great shape! It will be mostly stock with only a lift an maybe the dual mc as mods...a HD H260 rear diff with Detroit also if I can ever find one. It comes down to one thing when talking value. I have something nobody else has, it is documented and original not hacked or modded. So when I sell something like this I name my price and they line up to buy it! You will see my rag top when done and trust me it will be the best in the USA. I know all you guys bought your trucks for use and I can dig that, it is cool to see these trucks still being used and enjoyed. Yet, do not forget that what you own is very rare. It could pay for your school or more if you play your cards right. So save the old parts you remove is my suggestion and try not to hack or weld it up to much. You may kick yourself for doing it 10 years from now.

BTW, cool siggy Jon....I need one of those!

Hey Fudd,

I agree that a nice and very rare original Patrol is awesome. But one must look at the facts, when I demand that my truck must carry its own weight and on a limited budget modification is often the result. I attempt to upgrade each part I modify so that I have to fix it only once.

I will admit I would love to have an original Patrol, but I have no interest in a car or truck that I'm afraid to use. I don't care you give me a 125K H1 and I'll have paint scratches and dents in a short while. I'm just not one of those people that stand around and wax a car that I'm afraid to really use.

Most of all, I'll agree with you the Patrol is much stronger than the FJ-40 or a Jeep of similar year hands down.

Ian, the Patrol is fullfilling its role as the truck I had always wanted. It is my dream truck, and Im going to modify it. As long as I can help it, its still going to keep the rest of the original drivetrain, and stuff.

The FJ-40 axle and K-10 spring swap was a must so that it would even move under its own power.

It still has some mods to come, Im not going to lie to you... But what mods come are for necessity, comfort, and safety.

As long as I can help it, Im not even going to cut the fenders...

What mods I do are going to be able to be reversed...

Oh yeah, and Ive still got everything Ive taken off of my Patrol. Whether it be the old rear bumprettes or the temp and oil pressure sending units or even that one stock 15" split rim.

like I said I dig what you guys are doing....I can respect a P-troll being used. I use mine believe it or not. My point was and is though that it is rare, it is also increasing in value not decreasing. If you at least save the parts you remove then it can be put back to stock some day. Right now you are using it and enjoying it, kudos to that. yet, in ten years if you have it your ideas or use of the truck may have changed. Jon brought his back from the dead...but can you imagine him selling it in 5-10 years for 100 times what he paid. It is possible and he can also use and enjoy it in the meantime. If he hacks out the front cross member to fit a big block or cuts up the body to fit a roll bar and so forth then it will require much more to bring back to a collectable state. I think you guys know what I am saying....
