Why not take a drivers drop FRONT 60, and put rear steer on your Patrol? That would be fawkin' SCHWEET! Smile

Cause YOU CAN NOT PUT A FRONT 60 IN THE REAR. It would be turnig in reverse the whole time.
What you should do is get the axle tube cut on one side then add a longer axle tube to the other side.

Yes there is an offset 60 came in Ford vans

My bad. Get a passenger's drop 60, and flip it over. Smile Then you still have it. hehe

Ya know, there are Ford 9's that came in full size trucks that were offset a considerable amount.

True, True.

There were some offset 9"'s however even though they are lighter. They don't compare in strength to a 60

strongest diff on the planet...if you are concerned that you will brake one...I thought breaking axles only happens with 400hp and an auto..."gun it bubba!", anyways the toughest axle you will ever find is from a Volvo C303. They do not break, period. Also as I have said before they are portals, portal to those who do not know is an axle the comes in th top of the wheel and means much more clearance and leaf sprung plus have offset diffs on RHS both front and rear. Cost you more than a Patrol but you can also keep it long after you kill the Patrol.

Also I can't go to the junk yard and get a Volvo portal. I seriously doubt I would run a 60, I don't really want a hard core wheeler slash trailer queen. Just want something that can run the 'con and drive home at 60 mph.

Oh yea, they have stock vascuum activated lockers but if you do not like the vacuum it is easy and many have converted them to mechanical lockers...simply add a rod and brake lever and that is it done.

I am curious, what will you have in a dana 60 once it all done? Won't you have to mod the driveline, suspension, frame and more to fit it? Then won't you want a locker in it and if bought from a junker might be good to at least give it a light rebuild. Just curious as I have no idea, what does that kinda stuff cost?

ok dude...I understand now...part of it anyways. Not bashing ya here just wondering wtf. People alway get a rig not designed to do 60mph to and from the hardcore trails. Then they want to make it do what it was never intended to do...in some cases at least. Why not a Jeep or similar that will wheel well (i think) and do 65-75mph on the highway. Not to mention parts everywhere, it is more comfortable and the ladies will look at you more Razz I am not against modding and think all gutted Patrols should be saved this way but my ideas and purposes for modding are different than most people. Still have not figured out why...a guy I know in Denver with 3 Patrols bought a Jeep heavily modded so he could do what he can't in the Patrol. Cost him $7500 but his Patrols remain original. This I understand...

The money in the 60 is usually pushing $1500 to $2000.

Well my patrol is anything but a beauty, I bought in South lake Tahoe which is the exit to the con, and the teakers before me who owned defintaly took it through the con a couple of times. All the cross members are screwed frame has a bad case of rock rash, diff cover bent to hell, body seen a couple of to many rocks. The reason to build up a patrol and not a jeep is everybody around me has a jeep, as so did I a CJ-8.
Plus I got the patrol for a far better price then I could get a jeep around this neighborhood and we don't even want to talk about the price of TLC (CRAZY!!!!). So all this said and done, to bring my patrol back to stock would be a new frame, quater pannels that are uncut, new fenders, barn doors, cross members.

So thats why I have a patrol, plus I love the ugly body style Smile

I don't think Volvos are the strongest diff on the planet. Personally, I'd like some U1300's with some 53" Michelins that have some custom grooving... Smile

now worries Sacto...I was a bit grumpy this AM, just ask my employees! Wink

I do not need to say this but...it is your Patrol do whatever you like to it and enjoy it. Yet, if you do swaps try to save the stock stuff as the next owner may want them or you may want them in 15 years when your Patrol worth $20k restored! Razz Once the4 numbers do not match it is only worth so much to people like me who pay a lot for Patrols. Many many Patrols have seen many many hard days and yes a lot of them are hardly worth saving. If you can make it better and enjoy it the more power to ya'...sometimes it just frustrates me and makes me mad when I hear about a living patrol being frankenstiened. I suppose my passion for these trucks runs deep.

I will agree that any Mog axles is very tough, maybe more tough then a C303. Yet, I have heard of a few Mog axles breaking and diffs getting chowed. This could be due to the size of the trucks they are under but I have never heard of any C303 axle or diff dieing. Plus Mog axles are coil sprung and C303's are leaf sprung so easier to adapt the C303's. It is hard to say which is the best...if I had to put my money on one and they both under the same truck I may go with the Mog's...then again maybe not Razz

I was thinking at least $2k to fit a dana 60 correctly under a Patrol. That seems like a lot to me when I can get C303's out of Malaysia for $2500 a set but that is with no shipping. And unrebuilt or fitted to the truck, so be more no matter how you look at it. Why worry about parts for one though when it won't ever break!? Eek

Any ways, a good heated discussion...I will let you guys go back to talking the 60 and modding it into a Patrol in peace...Just remember it is only 30% truck and 70% driver! Big Grin

Oh yea...BTW Jon, I would like to meet you in Reno sometime and run the rubicon. I can bring the Pinz Wink plus I am only about 8hrs from there and it would be very fun...planning to go there sometime anyways.

Its cool, it wasn't a heated debate or anything like that. I was just trying to provide some info on other choices out there. I totally get were you are coming from on a #'s matching patrol and yes I have been really considering keeping it that way. Maybe if all the parts work out I will.

We defianlty should meet up some were reno is cool with me, you can always run the 'con backwards starting in South Lake and coming out at loon lake. Probably more fun that way anyways. Let me know when you come down this way.
