Got my 64 running but it runs rough....sending it in in few days to get a custom SS tank made, it will get all new fuel lines, filter and then tuned. The tank will run me $400-500 but should last the life of my rig, it will basically be a copy of a stock tank....getting a custom skid plate made for the fuel tank also. My starter is going down so getting it yanked and then sent to be rebuilt. After this I am going to get this thing stuck as it needs to go wheeling
In next couple months I will get all my door hindges replaced, embalms on, custom front and rear bumpers made, PTO winch rebuilt and new cable....and finally get a lift with tires. After this the rig should be set for awhile....wish me luck, I will need it!! |

the winch works but is a little dangerous right now. The box and shafts are good and so are the u-joints but it leaks so plan ot get bearings and seals in the PTO box. Then new seals on the winch , custom mount as the stock one bites. I am going to try to get the rollers lowered as they sit high, possibly spooling off the bottme since the actual winch wheel is so large off the top is high. I would like to get my hands on some plasma cable or something similar as cable is messy and on the unsafe side. The two PTO's I have I only plan to use for the stock Koenig winches....but they could run other things. I have only used this one once but it would seem it has enough power to tear the front end apart....
I am excited to get my 64 rolling as it has been since November when I drove it last and with a broken ankle I couldn't drive it! Now my ankle is healed and it is time to rally this beast |

yes the PTO is gnarly....the only time I used it was last November. Went wheeling in the snow and got stuck, first tree I hooked on was kind of small (not really but...) and the PTO nearly yanked it over! heh....I was glad I had 130' of cable because I needed it to get on a bigger tree. If the rig doesn't die I think the PTO is way better than eletric winch....
BTW, I remember that movie but been so long all I remember is the LR/tree scence. |

The SS tank is almost done now....it turned out to be damn expensive but is pretty awesome! I had them make it just a little bigger than a stock tank so I have around 2-3 more gallons. Also had them make a a sweet custom skid plate for the tank. I am trying to go all braided fuel lines but if I can't do it for $200 then I won't shell out the cash...just use some 3/8" steel line insted. Carb is rebuilt and so after the tank goes in all it needs is a new filter and a tune...
I just got fresh pads on the U-brake as the old ones were toasted, it works killer now! My shocks are toasted so looking into some new ones, maybe Ranchos. I decided to hold off on lift for awhile because I am short on cash with two other projects besides this 64. SO I am putting on the new rear leafs from Nissan and then possibly get the fronts re-arced....it should ride nice after this and the shocks. Got the starter rebuilt and it will be installed in less than a week too. Hopefully get my doors all fixxed up with spare hindges I have soon also. After that I will be looking in junkyards for some used CRX or similar seats and some good seat belts. I took some pictures and will take more over the next week or so...then try to get them up some people can see what is going on with this project |

You've been busy! Been awful hot here to be working on stuff. Still, I was under the truck last night.

WOW! Yeah, Ill agree with Desert Rat. It has been hot lately. I finally got around to pulling the top off of my Patrol. As far as I can tell, it has never been off! It was tough!

heh...that is right.
I dig my 64 a lot...if I had to choose over a 64 Patrol or a 64 (whatever)...I choose the Patrol. |

my 64 on NPCA
I added a few new shots of the work going on my 64 trail Patrol. I am sure many of you rock hounds will hate my new tank but read the caption before you bash it. Plus realize the only rocks this thing will ever see is if I haul it down to moab or further south. We just don't have much rock climbing locally.... I am putting in the stock height suspension because I have it basically and fronts cheap/easy to get done. New shocks and stabalizer all going in with fresh bushings too. I am looking forward to getting it out on the trail! |
