Unfortunately theres no exact science on the tire fitment thing. You just need to flex or turn everything to it's closest point of rub and measure your clearance and estimate based on that.
Pretty cool pics. Is that a PTO peeking through on the front there? 1998 Frontier 4x4 with ALL the goodies! 2002 Xterra 4x4 still stock Stop urban sprawl and advocate multi-use of public lands! It's YOUR pastime; get active and help save it! |

yea I was kinda thinking of that with tires...but wanted to ask first. I thought i might set up something where I could drive up on ramps or blocks to get suspension maxxed and then measure...plus the turning radius in front to measure. The pics don't do it justice and the tank makes it look like it sitting low but the rear diff is a solid 11" off the deck. I will get some side body shots and youo can see the difference in lift from the old flat springs
yepper...that sure is my PTO in the front, good eye! |

The 66 and the 64 sitting together. The 64 is about 3-4" taller now but it does have new springs/shocks and 16" rims plus no top. I wheeled it yesterday and it did great, might do bit more tonight. The carb is still giving me probs as it has to be turned rich to run smooth and then it fouls plugs fast...looking into a new and better carb setup as I am sick of these old adapted single barrle carbs. Seems when you run them at a tilt like when offroad they like to foul faster.... 64 from the backside....I wheeled in some decent ruts/rocks yesterday and did not hit the tank anywhere. I am still going to get the damn thing fixed if even just chopped shorter. It is about 16+ gallons and has great range but needs to come up because sooner or later I will be doing damage to it it. |

A little bit of picture spam
Got my hood bumps and hooks on for the windshield today so we had to go and wheel a bit with it folded. I leaned the carb today a bit and cleaned the plugs again because it was to rich again and fouling them after only 40 miles. I didn't time it but probily should have...it ran ok but was sputtering a little. It still had power though and was not smoking so we went anyways because it is close....get to the trail and get about 1/2 mile up. I cross sum really deep ruts and we bring a wheel off the ground. On she charges for about another 75 feet, then I begin to cross out of the rut again and it dies. Check it out and no fuel...eletric pump is running dry but plently of fuel in tank. We clean the filters, prime the pump and carb and pour 5 gallons (lucky we had it) in the tank to fill it. Varoom! Fires right up...seems I got a vapor lock or something similar between the tank and the pump. One of the guys was saying an eletric pump should be mounted close to the tank as possible but I am thinking it is going down and I never liked one in a Patrol. So I might throw on a new stock mechanical pump I have, these ollds ones have a hand prime and probily would have made today easier if it would have even happened. Also might be that the new tank has the old short suction tube. Thus it only goes 4" down into a 10" deep tank....check that tomorrow. Any ways just some pics of the days fun...if I can get this carb/fuel pump thing dialed and my tank fixed I will be a happy man...I am very happy with the new suspension! |

Thats one sweet lookin Patrol, man! Now all you need is some spiffy half-moon hubcaps, front ones with holes for your hubs, and it will look great!

What size spare do you have? Im seriously thinking about re-mounting my tail lights in the body instead of on the bumper, and was wondering what size tire you have. The biggest fear I have is that the tire will be too big and block the light on the drivers side.

Doing a bit of wheeling in the 64 yesterday....the hill is only about 300 yards long and not that steep but fun anyways. I have some hub caps for the red one but they ar3e put away because they are so rare and hard to find, stock ones that is. I would not mount the tail lights in the body...the spare on the blue one is an old stock Toyo 6.5x16 and on the red one it is a 245 making it a 28" tire. I plan on eventually mounting a 3-way tail light in my bumper with custom bumbers made. As is you can not see the drivers side light for squat. The blue one has (had) a eletric fuel pump and it is (was) giving me major probs. It was starving the carb and on hills it will vapor lock and die...like this hill it died at the top. So I (we) was up late last night putting in a new stock mechanical fuel pump....I will see how it runs later today with this new pump. |

oh yea...just got on new embalms all around for the 64...makes it look a lot better. One thing about this blue 64...it may photo nice but it is full of bondo. I drilled the holes for the embalms in the fenders and solid bondo! Who ever did the bondo work did a good job but it is still bondo

I HATE Bondo! Thank god our Patrols are so simply made. Most of the metal that is dented can just be replaced with regular sheet metal...

yea bondo sucks....yet I have plenty of clean body parts to fix this Patrol. I do not really care about the body one the 64 right now anyhoo...it is better this way so I do not get bummed when I hit a tree!!
I was wondering if someone could offer me some advice on my fuel probs with the 64. I checked the drop tube in the tank and it goes down plenty far, they did extend it when the tank was built. So why the hell no fuel to my carb?? The tank is new, lines are new, carb is rebuilt and filters are new. So it is very clean. I put on the stock fuel pump and now can not get it primed and it won't deliver any fuel. It is hooked up right and I did check to make sure it is pumping. The pump seems to be pumping air just fine when turning over the engine...but like I say no fuel. The only thing left for me to try is to take a hand pump I bought and try to pump fuel from tank to carb thus priming it all. If this doesn't work I am at a major loss on how to fix it. Any suggestions!!?? |

Are you having this problem when the truck is hot, or all the time? Sounds like vapor lock, but that'll only happen if you have a fuel line next to something hot, usually.
Or, it's possible your tank isn't properly vented making it difficult to suck fuel out of it because no air can enter to displace the fuel coming out. That's probably a longshot tho. 1998 Frontier 4x4 with ALL the goodies! 2002 Xterra 4x4 still stock Grow the Nissan Community and stand up for ORV user rights! |

Yeah, I tried buying another one for parts, but the guy wanted $1350 for it... what a heap! Made mine look nice... Then he had the audacity to try to trade a 4x4 S-10 Blazer for it! I was offended...
