The last PTO box and winch I bought ran me $500 and the winch needs a bit of welding work on the frame and mount, otherwise it is all perfect condition. I found this in Oregon and over last X-mas drove out to pick it up. I have seen a couple come across the NPCA board but they are very rare and a lot of the time go with a truck or whatever.

You might be best off with a Warn eletric winch...up to you I guess.

I say go with the electric one, dude... If you know your friend's winch works, you will be set. If you buy a factory winch from somebody, there is a chance that it may not work...

Just my $2.00... inflation ya know... Wink

well...with a PTO it is easy to tell if it works. Simply inspect it, the gears in box should show no wear or chips. bearings and seals should be good, u-joints should be solid with no excess play and the winch box should not leak and cable should free spool out. This is how the one i bought for 4500 was and it worth the cash to me, I am doubting it needs a rebuild simply new mounts made. Yet, an eletric will be easier to fix or replace and cost less in the long run and if the truck not running it will usually still run. That is one thing about a PTO, it needs the truck running.
