I know this forum has been dead for awhile but I have not had much going on other than this trip and buying the MQ.

The trip was 12 days in S.America exploring my Patrol sources, buying the 1980 LG61 and some 4wheeling. It was an excellent trip to say the least! I had the pleasure of driving a 91 Y60 Patrol with 2" OME coils, f&r ARB lockers and 5spd with a TB42 gas inline-six. These SWB early 90's Patrols are really awesome and outdid everything else I saw with ease. I also got to drive a 2002 SWB GQ Patrol with a 3L TD and intercooler. It has a LSD in the rear end....a really awesome truck! We are so unlucky to not have these in the USA as they are the top of the food chain for Nissan 4x4's....maybe the top of the food chain for ALL 4x4's!

Any ways, here are some pictures of a short day trip 4wheeling in the mountains plus some pics of the LG61 I bought.

Great pics! Did you catch the article on the Patrol in last week's Autoweek?

Autoweek called me 2 weeks or so ago to get solid info for the write up, plus I know the man whoes Patrol is feature. They were supposed to send me a free issue of the mag that features the Patrol. Have not got it yet so in other words no I have not read or seen the article.

Did you get a good look at any 60-Series Patrols with SOA? I want to do SOA on my Patrol, but Im afraid my draglink is going to hit on my passenger side leaf spring when the passenger side is stuffin, and cranked to the right...

Of course I did Jon...I drove it and took pictures. Unfortunately though it is an LG61 meaning it has the C200 front diff and MQ steering system. Yet, you will dig the truck and may give you ideas for other things. So drop me an email and I will send the pics. Make sure your box is got room as they are near .5megs each. I would think bending you drag link and inreasing camber would fix the prob if it even occures.

Yes it was AWESOME! Not exactly jungle like you may think. Way up in the mountains so bit more dry that you may expect. Yet, it was hella warm, very lush and still a jungle! I won't ever forget the trip and I reccomend taking one to S.America to anyone. 4wheeling or otherwise...but the wheeling is pretty good! It was well worth the money I spent and the effort to do it.

I was wondering where you had gone. So you bought a MQ while you were there? What are the specs on it?

The specs on the MQ are...
-SD33 diesel, about 95hp and 170lbs
-4spd tranny, don't know ratios in my head but it's a lot lower than the old Patrol 3spd
-C200 diffs in front and rear, not sure of ratios yet
-leaf sprung, and they flat toasted leaves
-24 volt system
-removable hard top
-SWB and 2 door
-sway bar only in front
-auto hubs that will be dumped for manual

The LG61 goes like this...
-P40 motor with 140hp & 235lbs
-MQ 4spd tranny
-MQ C200 diffs in both ends plus MQ drive lines
-leaf sprung and they in good shape
-no heater!
-triple wipers
-electronic ignition
-MWB with removable fiberglass top, top has a cool venting system in it

I would love to tell you but have agreed to not make this info public for awhile. Reason is I have the monopoly in this S.American country on Patrol parts and likely other parts. Once I am all set up and doing well with RMP&O we do not plan to keep this info secret. I can tell you the third world country I went to was nothing like I expected, matter of fact it was a ton better than Mexico. These Latin people I met were some of the nicest people I have ever met in my life! Not to mention most love Nissans and 4x4's.

Did they ever make a 5-speed that bolted up to the P or P-40?

Yes Jon Nissan made a 5spd that bolts tot he P40 but not the P engine. It came in the MK Patrol around 1985.

BUT doesnt the P have the same bolt pattern as the P40?

well....that is a good point Jon. It may have the same bolt pattern but I kind of doubt it. The things that are different on the P40 is the engine mounts, bell housing, oil filter and few internal parts. I am assuming the 5spd is going to have a different shaft too. Untill I look more at the 4spd on the shop floor and compare it to the old 3spd I can't say. The LG61 has a P40 in it and once it gets home next winter I might know more about this then also. At the most I would think the 5spd will have a different shaft, require an adaptor plate and it is likely longer than the 3spd. I am guessing too as I have no way to know for sure at this time....
