Well we are a step closer to an HEI dist conversion for our Patrols. I pulled some chevy dists today and we did some measurments. I will keep you all posted on my progress and the part numbers for those who wish to do the conversion.

I should know more on Wed. That is when I'll be working on the upgrade. But I think I might be closer to using a 280zx distri. than the HEI.

I will keep you all posted.

A popular swap for other I-6's is the HEI dizzy off of the 250 cid from 78-84 Chevy Vans, Pickups, Suburbans, and Blazers...

From what was said on NPCA, you could just make a longer shaft and use the Patrol gear...

An HEI performance would be sweet, but I'm going to hold out for using a 280zx dist. Similar performance and they don't were out like the used HEI. It will still be a while, and I need to find another Z dist for my Patrol. My friend has a totaled Zx in his lot so he will use that one to test the proceedure.

Ive seen Z dizzies. Theyre not as large as Chevy HEI dizzy. Might be able to do without the extended shaft! Smile

Let me know how it goes, because my friend has several old Z's in his salvage yard.

I know it works well, but if you send me you friends dist and stuff from that Z, I'll prove it to you. Wink Anyway it is very simple. Once you pulled it you would see. There is only a little bit of modification needed (less than with and HEI) Plus, since the old Z has the module on top you'll only need to connect two wires. My only question is I'm not sure what I would need to set as a spark plug gap? Maybe Desert Rat or Datz510 have a beeter clue than me. I imagine that I could just set them the same as what the 280zx required. I have bid on 2 Z dist on ebay but lost both auctions, Frown

Dizzy and what else would you need?

Just curious... If my friend lets me have one cheap enough, I might buy one off of him and send it your way...

For the 280zx distributor, you dont need anything else. THe 280zx dist contains the EI module and everything. Its a 2 wire install, run one wire to negative of the coil and one wire to the coil positive.
