Well hello people - just stumbling around the net, and found ya lurking here.
Could be you may be my saving grace !! Does anyone have any info/spec/engine type/transmission type / anything at all on an 87 2.8 6 Cyl ?
Gonna try to post a pic, and i dont know whether to include [img][/img] tags or not, as i'm not sure if this is a VBB forum.

Its about $750/800 ( £550 ) and has current MOT lasting another 9 months. No known faults, ( the owner says ! )

Cheers

2.8 gas? Inline 6, right? Sounds like an L28 series engine or a variation thereof. We got those in early Z cars in the states. They run forever.

For $750-800, I'd POUNCE on it!

Thanks Rat and bille - dammit i just found out its a manual Gearbox. I wanted an Auto trans

Please tell me guys, that i can throw an Auto in there without major mods ???

Well bille, the MOT is something EVERY vehicle here in the UK thats older than 3 years must have. Its the ( Gov. ) Dept of TRansport roadworthyness test done every 12 months, or you get fined if caught .
Basically any vehicle must be safe, ( no bad brakes, rotten chassis etc ) and must pass emissions.

Oh ..and heres what the seller said about it.

NISSAN PATROL LWB 2.8 6 CYLINDER PETROL. METALLIC SILVER IN GOOD CONDITION. DRIVES FAULTLESS. THE ENGINE IS SO QUIET ON TICKOVER YOU CAN BEARLY HEAR IT.
IT HAS HUGE CHROME WHEELS WITH ALL TERRAIN TYRES WHICH ARE ALL EXCELLENT, + BULLBARS, POWER STEERING, TOWBAR WITH TWIN ELECTRICS.
THE GEARBOX IS SUPER SMOOTH WITH EXCELLENT TRANSFER BOX. RUNS 2 WHEEL DRIVE HIGH, 4 WHEEL DRIVE LOW, AND FOUR WHEEL DRIVE HIGH, WITH AUTO LOCKING HUBS. HAS A HUGE ROAD PRESENCE AND IS SURPRISINGLY NIMBLE GREENLANING AS WELL. THIS WOULD BE A SUPERB WINTER HACK OR JUST AN AWESOME PLEASURE VEHICLE.

IT HAS NO KNOWN FAULTS AND WILL NOT LEAVE OIL ALL OVER YOUR DRIVE THERE ARE NO LEAKS AT ALL!!!! THIS CAR IS ALSO A PLEASURE TO TOW WITH AND WILL COPE WITH ANYTHING YOU CAN HOOK UP TO IT AND IS NOT SO BAD ON FUEL CONSIDERING ITS SIZE ABOUT... 25 ON A RUN 18 TO 20 TOWN SO NOT BAD
I HAVE ALL THE DOCUMENTATION, MOT FOR 9 MONTHS, TAX UNTIL APRIL 2004.
THE DRIVERS SEAT IS A LITTLE LUMPY, AND THERE ARE A COUPLE OF HOLES IN DOOR PANELS, WHERE THE SPEAKERS WERE.
THE BODYWORK IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION

.

PS. Tax is another scam we have to pay for in the UK. Called ROAD TAX. We pay £160 a year to actually have a vehicle on the road. Yeah, go figure

to the UK Govt.

We pay that too...it's called vehicle registration, and it varies by state.

Not sure on swapping in an auto. The trick would be to find a wrecked one to salvage the auto and all associated plumbing along with it. You'd probably be better off looking for one with an auto to begin with, however.

That said, there's nothing wrong with a manual tranny!

So you get scammed too ? Eek hehe.

Well i'm really interested in grabbing it DES, cos you dont find them very often of that year. Maybe i can look out for a complete Engine and Trans later. Its knowing what will fit, and what wont fit, thats the nightmare.

PS i just looked at my username and it looks like i'm er..associated with internet sex !! When in fact, its the County i was born and raised in Eyes

Are you just not a manual fan, or do you not know how to drive one? Cause before I bought my Patrol, I didnt know how to drive a standard...

Youre gonna need a different radiator, or a seperate tranny cooler...

You could turn that clutch pedal into something nifty... like a rear-only brake... or something... that would be sweet, and make it actually go down hills like it would if it were a standard...

Nice find!

Wow.. a patrol for $800.. Nice find! Thats a really good looking truck too!

If its got a good recent MOT, it should be a pretty safe bet! Are MOTs required yearly for 87s?

As far as converting to auto.. it may be more of a pain than its worth. Autos are nice to have, but the transmissions themselves are very expensive to purchase... probably double what you are paying for the Patrol if you buy a rebuilt tranny. I would just stick to the manual tranny and see how you like it. You could always put in some crawler gears in the transfer case if you want to go slower offroad. Smile

Hello again muddy mates. Dammit, yes i can drive a manual ! I just hate them with avengeance.

And yes Datz - even that 87 will have to have a yearly MOT test . ( Ministry Of TRansport ) about £38. Only vehicles 3 years and under get away with it. Once they hit 3 years they need one from then on every year

Is it me, or is there some striking resemblance to an XJ? I know the Patrol is bigger tho.
