patched sill pretty much done other than paint.

hole in bumper is for tail pipe....

frame mounts for the bumper

first coat of primer is on...ya this is cheap crappy primer.

this is where all the good primer went! all cleaned up and primed, next comes modifying it.

building this took time away from the Patrol, oh well it was needed.

Is anyone even interested in this Patrol!? Sometimes I feel like I am talking to myself here. :r

So I got my parts from Yuri today. Super fast shipping, one week from Aus. to me and these parts are heavy! I am very happy with Yuri. Smokin

Here is another pic of the high steer set up. You can see the arm is off set, this was custom made to order. In fact he usually only does RHD set ups. The knuckle cap bolts have been modified also. Buying a regular old high steer arm would be nowhere near this slick! Me building one would be fun but this is easier and much better than I could do.

Here are pics of the GQ CV's. These are from a H233 front and brand spanking new. They are a bit larger than the C200 CV's. You can see they have had a ring welded onto them. They have also been heat treated for strength. Next to the CV is the GQ hub inners which I will be using to run the GQ CV's. The hub inners are stronger than C200 hubs and all I have to do is slap them in my C200 f/w hubs.

I have been looking into the SD33T thing. I was thinking of buying a complete MK Patrol and importing it then take the SD33T out of it. I would then get the right bell housing, if I even need one. I would also get a rear H233, spare front diff, spare 5spd, spare transfer, spare body parts and spare interior. I would also get all the 12v electricals so I can convert my truck to 12v. But I have now decided to buy the H233 from Yuri. I get a complete rear H233 with 4.6's set up with disc brakes and fully rebuilt for a soild price so what the hell why not!? And on top of that even if I bought a complete Patrol to import I would still rebuild the engine. In the end importing a Patrol would be the best thing to do as I would have tons of spare parts but to get going it will cost more. So I am starting to decide that I should just buy a SD33T engine here in the USA. Ya know I got the rear diff all worked out and the engine is the only other thing I really need. Nice to have spares but I am not on a limitless budget nor do I have a shop. Plus I would like to get these things done and not sit around waiting for 6-8months for a truck to arrive.

Anyways, I talked to Jesco for awhile this afternoon. They can supply me with a complete SD33T. The motor is fully rebuilt from bottom end to top end by a SD33T pro using only Nissan parts. I can also buy a complete turbo injection pump from them. This is not cheap by any means but I wouldn't have to screw around with having a shop swap motors from 2 trucks and rebuilding one of them. Not to mention getting 2 trucks to a shop and back means multiple trips hauling Patrols. So one plan gets me more parts but costs more money and takes more time....not to mention is a pain in my butt. The other way gets me less spares but is way easier and a bit cheaper. So I am pretty much making up my mind to buy the new motor from Jesco.

My only concerns with using a Jesco SD33T is the bolt pattern from block to bell housing. Jesco shop tech told me the IH Scout SD33T uses a SAE #4 pattern. That I did know from reading Scout forums. But what does mine use? He seemed to think they are the same, I think he is right but man it is a major prob if they are not. I like to know things for sure, especially when spending lots of cash. I am sending Jesco a pic of my bell housing to see if they can verify it is indeed using a SAE#4 pattern. The only other concern is that the Jesco SD33T is going to be 12v. I am running a 24v system but I think this is an easy thing to fix. Simply run a 24v to 12v convertor and have the I/P hooked up through this. I plan to run one anyways to run accessories so 24v to 12v probs solved.

Anyways, here is a pic of the Jesco/Scout SD33T. You can see the bell housing is very short and not anything I can use. But it looks like the bolt pattern will work if you compare it to the pic of my bell housing.

So can anyone tell if the MQ/MK Patrol is running a SAE#4 pattern? If it is this brings up an interesting point too. In theory you could run a Scout tranny which is what a Dana? And that then opens up a whole new can of worms because this leads to running an Atlas transfer!

This all takes a lot of thinking, talking to people and planning to work out. But that is part of my interest here. I don't know anybody anywhere who has worked out these kinds of details on the MQ/MK Patrols. The Aussies don't have any Scouts with SD33's that I know of. And they have GQ Patrols which means why even bother with the MQ/MK to this level when you can just simply buy a GQ!? They also don't have Dana diffs in every junkyard, a set of 60's may run them $5k! Plus the Patrol diffs are tuff as hell so why upgrade when it costs a lot for a little? I am into keeping a truck Nissan because I think Nissan and the Patrol kick ass! But I will admit I am starting to think about building one with domestic gear. To me this is all not only interesting but useful info because I may want to build more than just this one MQ/MK in the future. Wink

Then we add in the fact that the P40 uses the same bolt pattern for the tranny as the SD33. Hmmnnn, well where could this lead? P40 in a 60 series running a MQ/MK 5spd? Or even better P40 into a 60 series running the Scout tranny and an Atlas! Could be one heck of a sleeper Patrol with these kids of mods. We know the P40 fits super easy into the 60 series just a matter of welding in new engine mounts. Heh, the thinking never ends...I suppose you could call all this research and development! Roll Eyes

Anyways enough of my blahing...tomorrow back to working on my P-troll! Wink

Thanks! Big Grin

well another weekend of work down. Pretty much went slow again this weekend. Fab'ing stuff, cleaning parts and all that takes time.

This is the plate that sits under the PTO shifter. The arm holds the linkage and also guides it to the shifter. In this picture we have already cut the arm off and reversed it, RHD to LHD conversion. It is also cut and offset, ready to weld.

test fitting.

painted

custom bracket we made for the box end of the linkage. Not anything special but strong and it works well.

linkage all in...

it works pretty well.

reinforcing the rear quarter corners. Trying to buff up the body all over back here in the corners of the quarters because the tire carrier rides here. With a the tire carrier, 36" tire, big rim and 5 gallon can of diesel it is a lot of weight to ride on the body.

drilled for tire carrier. You can can see one of the reinforcing plates in the tail light recess.

the little plastic clip on the right guides the door rod. After 24yrs these break and the rod has to much play to open the door from inside the truck. Real pain in the arse and I have had no luck finding a clip to use here. So we just fab'ed up some steel ones and welded em' in! Works great! Big Grin

Keep it coming, Ian.

I'm looking so forward to seeing this thing on the trail. Have only ever wheeled with one other MQ.

Crazy that the bigger H233B birfs fit in the C200....

Hey thanks! I am really into the MQ's these days, love em and think they are awesome trucks!

There are a lot of mods that can be done to an MQ/MK using GQ parts. It is just a matter of figuring it out. I am going to be running rear GQ discs and using a GQ M/C not to mention the GU TD performance clutch. Believe it or not you can even put C200 knuckle onto a H233 front diff. The Aussie GQ guys do this to get better steering rod placement. The stock H233 front has the tie rod down low in back, C200 it is up front and higher.

I am buying a complete H233 rear from Yuri in Aus. He will then fully rebuild it and fit disc brakes, stock is drums. Getting top of the line parts and vented rotors! Going to have him fit an ARB locker while he is at it. He is also supplying me with 4.6 gears and a few other bits. I already bought everything to rebuild the front diff, the upgraded CV's, high steer and an ARB locker for the front. So once I get all this junk I will have both diffs fully rebuilt, upgraded and locked. STOKED! Big Grin

Loving the new steering wheel, it rocks!

Started the P-troll for the first time in nearly 2 months today. It fired right up no probs at all. Put some stuff back on the truck too. The PTO shifter and box works great! Real happy about that...

Took the truck out for some wheeling this evening. Kind of had to, to much work lately required some R&R. Found some great new trails on the Idaho side of this Teton pass. Had some fun and the truck is doing great.

Still work to do though....
