Kinda surprised noone has posted up about this news. Check this out.. Heres a couple of recent articles with some GREAT news from Nissan:

Nissan plant might kick it up a notch with heavy-duty Titan

Nissan May Produce Heavy-Duty Truck In Canton

quote:

A heavy-duty pickup truck with a diesel engine may be produced at the Nissan plant in Mississippi.

...

If a heavy-duty Titan were launched, it would compete against General Motors' Chevrolet Silverado, Ford's F-250 and F-350, the heavy-duty Dodge Ram, and the GMC Sierra 2,500 and 3,500.

And from the TDR, a Dodge Cummins forum:

Nissan Titan HD Diesel on the way

quote:

Nissan officials at the Paris Auto Show have essentially confirmed that they will build a heavy duty Titan with a diesel. A Nissan VP stated that they are seeking an engine partner for a "big American V-6 or V-8" diesel engine.

So what do you guys think???

I think that would be cool as hell Wink

But I would be afraid to pick one up only because it would be the first Nissan p/u stateside to have the diesel engine. Not much knowlege or support aside from the dealerships... Hell, even then, good luck lol

I just hope they use Cat or the International. It would be neat to see a "Powerstroke Titan" I don't think I would even give it a second look if they put in a cummins. I guess we will have to wait and see what happens. Be nice if it came with a solid front axle though I doubt that will happen.

I'd rather have a cummins engine than a powerstroke.. this coming from someone that owns a powerstroke. Wink ALthough, Ford is responsible for 90% of the problems with the Powerstroke engine.. The T444E as put together by International was actually pretty decent.

A full size Nissan with a diesel WOULD be very awesome... Smile It would lower the price of the Dodge Cummins that I want. Razz (sorry, I just don't like the looks of the Crewcab Titan, and I doubt that Nissan would throw in a Dana 80 rear, and a front with a 10.5" ring gear like Dodge...)

Does UD make an engine small enough for a pickup?

I just looked at the UD site and it states the engines are made by a vendor for Nissan.

Nissan has been making Diesels for many years at least since the 70s (Intl scout). I am sure they could make one for the US market like they did with the Endurance V8.

Nissan definatly has the capability to produce a diesel, but a completly new motor would have to be designed. And to produce a brand new motor for one model only, would not be that smart on behalf of nissan. They could use it for the Armada but what soccer mom would want a diesel.
If they used a modified existing motor the buying market probably would not respond well, because it would be competing with cummins, powerstroke..etc, it would be cheaper to buy the diesel motors and use that as a selling point in addition to an "import" with a diesel.

PLEASE do not let them modify a current motor to run on diesel, GM did that years ago and it was a failure.

I think WheelinTN was refering to modifying an existing UD diesel engine for use in the Titan. I'd be all for that. After dealing with the problems that my Powerstroke has, I have lost faith in Ford as a quality manufacturer.. The engine in my Ford, as it came from International is awesome and would be great except for the fact that Ford screwed up everything by doing their own thing with the fuel system. Further proof is the 6.0L diesel powrestroke. That is one of the worst diesel engines Ford has ever put in a vehicle.. They have bought back a significant number of them and know there is a major problem witht he engines.

I have faith that Nissan would do it right if they went this route, as from what I've seen they try to do it right the first time, unlike Ford..

Datz is right, that is what I meant. Nissan would do a good job, but do you think a modified UD motor would sell as well as the bigger brands, because they are more trust worthy, considering that this would be the first nissan diesel in the states, and it is being sold to your average redneck.
Honestly I do not know a bunch about diesel manufacturers so I can't get too detailed with you, but nissan also has to make their share of money off of this new endeavor. I would like to see a nissan diesel with nissans reliablity, but i guess IMO the design/marketing team may think too few people would buy.

I might buy a diesel Titan if it came with a 5.9l or bigger Cummins. Nothing else. Although, they would also have to change the vehicle somewhat... I can't stand the blind spots on Titans...

I agree.. the blind spots can be dealt with.. just put some good convex mirrors on it and it'll be fine. My truck has them and they are AWESOME for driving in traffic.

They will need to put at least a Dana 60 in the rear.. that Dana 44 isnt going to cut it for heavy duty use.

I don't mean just the blind spots on the sides... The ENORMOUS side mirrors, and A pillers have GOT to go. I have driven my aunt's Chevy 2500HD, and it's no where near as bad. Nissan's A pillers are TERRIBLE. That was my only complaint. It definitly had ALOT of power.
