I'm thinking a dana 60 is the only kind of insurance for that 44.

damn you guys are quick... I thought you'd at least have to guess twice... ha
oh well..
I went ahead and bit the bullet bought a ford hp front d60... how could I resist?!? $200 and my long board... it was from a buddy of mine down here whose uncle owns a scrap yard in Odum. He had about 10 of them lying around... I was debating on getting a suspension lift, but hell it'll be around $3000 out the door with tires and wheels, so I might as well spend a little more for a WHOLE lot more, right?!? Welder

SO what are you going to do about the rear? I thought this was supposed to be the 44 insurance, not the IFS insurance?

My front is a d44 also (centersection anyways), just IFS...

I just got an entire new rear axle, so I'm gonna leave it for now, but I'm gonna be on the hunt for a 14 bolt or dana 60 or 70 I guess... The guy I got this axle from didn't have any rear axles bigger than 44s, 10 bolts, and 9"s... It'll be fine for a couple more months... I'm not gonna have enough to start it at least till the new year after I buy all the needed parts... but at least now I've committed to doing it. I want to have it done for the AZ run, but I don't know where I'll get the $$ to travel cross country after this.... hmmmm... Christmas is coming up... might have to send the folks a wish list... Devil

They're Kingpin style, and I don't know how much he wants for them... my buddy owed me a favor so he told his uncle it was for him, so he only charged him I think $350 for the axle and he's been wanting one of my boards for a while, so... $200 and a surfboard later, and here I am...
I want to go ahead and cut everything off the front end and at least get the axle under there but I would have to hold off until I get a rear axle so I can match gears, and I can't be without 4x4 for very long... I've got the scrapyards number somewhere, I could call and ask about the axles... He also had a pretty good pile of drivers drop axles also...

Will and Mike...

I'll probably be starting this (hopefully) over Christmas break and 90% of the work will be done in Cocoa Beach, FLA... I've got an uncle there who will help me with it pretty much for food and beer, and thats right in my price range Razz...

Your going to need a steering box since you have rack & pinion from the factory. You also might see about having the crossmembers, arms and brackets on the axle done before you start cutting so it will save on downtime. So are you going to rebuild, gear and lock that front before you put it in or are ya going redneck?

no... everything has to be done first, driveshaft and the whole 9... I want to start cutting on a Thursday and finish tightening the last bolt by Tutesday at the latest, and River Rock it that Friday... smiley34

...and what steering box should I get? and whats up with RAM steering?!? I mean I know what it is/does, but cost wise as opposed to the alternative... I'm going to be on 37s at least so I don't want to get a workout everytime I try and turn... This is going to get expensive, huh?!? Smokin

WHen are you planning on doing this Aaron? 4 days is asking a lot for a SAS. You will still need to figure shocks and other stuff. I'm not trying to talk you out of it, but you don't want to oversimplify this. AS for steering, start searching the JY's or e-bay. Then worry about hydro assist. You don't want full hydro for the highway.
